Commander John Rodgers led a crew in a record flight of 2,230 miles in 28 hours, 35 minuets & 27 seconds to the Hawaiian Islands in PN-9 no. 1 seaplane (powered by two Packard Model 1A-1500 engines), forced down short of the Honolulu destination when ran out of fuel.
