Photo caption on back from Packard News Service 1948 Packard, before Packard's three all new eights for 1948 went into production each was subjected to thousands of tortuous test miles at the 513-acre Packard Proving Grounds, full speed around the world's fastest 2.5 mile concrete oval, over miles of rutty dirt roads, up hills as steep as 20 degrees, every conceivable maltreatment was inflicted upon the 1948 super eights (convertible shown here), the custom eights and the eights in months of scientific automobile abuse, all models had to pass each test of super critical research engineers before getting the production green light.
