8x10 black and white Packard Co. file photograph of a 1928 Packard race car being checked out by three men, driver behind wheel. Inscribed on photo back; Packard Motor Car Co. Proving Grounds 2.5 mile concrete speedway, Utica, Mich., inauguration ceremonies 14 June 1928; Leon Duray, 91-cubic inch front drive Miller special #4, set closed course one lap record of 148.17-mph, thus did proving ground track become the world's fastest speedway, a title held until the opening of Monza in Italy after WWII.

Inscribed on photo back; accessories, hood ornaments, 1925-26 Packard second series eight, Packard deluxe emblem known as 'Goddess of Speed,' note: designer Joseph E. Corker patent granted to Packard Motor Car Co. 7/12/1927, patent #73,026, exhibited on a Rollston cabriolet at the New York City Automobile show January 1926.

The Quickel Building (at the SW corner of 6th St. & Central Ave.) and its parking garage (at the NW corner of 6th St. & Gold Ave.) were constructed in the 1920s as a Studebaker dealership (according to this article). In 1954 Studebaker was acquired by the Packard Motor Car Company, whose logo still graces the back of the parking structure.


The Quickel Building was a three-story office building and had some tenants even after Packard left the building. Today there is still some commercial space on the first floor (home to Grisham & Lawless, a caf
