Not the greatest picture quality, a print from a very old slide taken by this writer at Hershey about 1964 - 1968 perhaps. I believe this is either a 4th or 5th series 48 Imperial Limousine, body type #69. As I remember this car was being used as an ambulance for a private church-supported hospital in southern New Jersey at the time it was "discovered" and bought for restoration. Takes a tall garage to house this lovely example of early Packard elegance. |

That's occasional contributor to this site JHH2392 in the passenger seat. Just ahead is a fairly rare Packard, a 1941 160DE convertible cpe in Saratoga Beige with wheels in Cimarron Red, an original combo. Just ahead of that is a 1931 Pierce-Arrow model 43. |

Some further pictures of a Model C engine. On the side image you can see the large counterweights of the crankshaft, and also the governor for the centrifugal spark advance (patent 667,792 of 2/12/1901). The crankcase is an "open" case; rings are oiled by an oiler on top of the cylinder and the excess oil that is below the rings just blows out the back (facing forward), making a tidy little mess to clean up after driving. This particular car did the London-Brighton run and I can only guess at what the cleanup was like. I'm guessing the rpm range of this motor was probably from about 60 (idle) to perhaps 800 max. Not too different in multiple than today's engines. |

Here's an interesting 1952 (?) Packard recently seen at the Greenwich (CT) Concours d'Elegance. I wish I remember more of the details, but it was bodied in Italy I believe, and was not a factory sponsored endeavor but owner-commissioned. Typically European with the blackwall tires. Rather nice looking, no? |

From Yachting magazine, date unknown but the engines pictured were produced from 1947 thru 1951. Available in either clockwise or counterclockwise rotation with several different gear ratios, in either 6 or 12 volt. |

Very old and grainy photo, perhaps taken by Austin Clark Jr in the 60s. Interesting to compare this car to the 1940 Darrin sedans. |
