There's probably not a vendor out there serving the hobby who at some point had a problem with a customer and suffered some ill will, deservedly or not. I've never bought from Waldron but have generally heard good things about them. I bought from Kepich once and would never do so again.

lower door hinge will be tough. rocker panels not reproduced. Runningboard rubber is repro'd by Steele.
As for the drivetrain, I may be interested. flackmaster@sbcglobal.net

Richard, if the transmission gear oil has really thickened to the point where it won't flow, just adding something like kerosene (which is compatible diluent) thru the filler port without the ability to stir it around will not thin it and help it drain. My best suggestion would be to remove the transmission from the car for a thorough cleaning; second best, pull the floor boards and the transmission cover, scoop out as much as you can and then go with kerosene and a stiff parts-cleaning brush and try to work all the way around and as best you can towards the bottom, inspection at that point should show you why the shifter is stuck. Drain and repeat several times. I'm not familiar with the internals of the junior transmission but the seniors have troughs cast into the sides which collect gear oil spray and direct it by gravity to the front and rear bearings - these troughs and drip points MUST be cleared.

If the transmission is that bad, I can only guess what the differential and steering gear box must be like. If that's the case, best bet is to remove the differential to clean and inspect the bearings and ring/pinion gear. The steering gear box will be more difficult as it has no drain.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Don and Rachel's 1937 1095 120CD and 1098 Coupe Projects
Home away from home
Home away from home

Don 37
I am finally to the point where I can start restoring this project. I have owned the car for about 18 months and during that time I have been aquiring the needed parts to make it enough of a car to call it a car. I looked at my garage and low and behold it is filled to the brim. I am there. A little history on myself. I have been into Packards for over 33 years. I bought my first in 1976 a 55 Clipper Custom. Drove a 53 Air Force Jr. Ambulance as a daily driver for many years. I have owned the below list of 37's

3- 1098 Business Coupes (My first in 1985 went to Australia)
2- 1094 Touring Coupes
6- 1092 Touring Sedans (hmmm in getting parts I have a complete one now, over collected again)
1- 1082 Touring Sedan

And finally 1- 1095 Sport Coupe My first project I will complete. All the ones previously had I would gather all the pieces and then need to eat or send a kid to school , so there were sold.

Here are the parts I needed to find to make mine complete

1. Complete dash
2. Good Front Fenders (I could have folded the ones that came with it and mail them)
3. Right side rear fender ( I now have three I kinda over collected)
4. All hood chrome( now have 2.5 sets)
5. All three rumble seat steps (still need the Bumper one)
6. Both Taillights
7. Deluxe Heater
8. Seat (Have to settle for one from a 1092)
9. Intake and exhaust manifold
10.outside door handles
11. Trunk Emblem (Car candy did not really have to have this part)
12. Luggage Rack Assy.
13. Both trunk Handles
14. Hood orn (Bail Cap for now)
15. All bumper guards and Bolts
16. 1 Wheel (4 on the car are early 37 without chain holes, it had to match the others Right?
17. Clock ( Okay I do have 4 clock deletes but I have always been a collector)
18. Headlights (Ones without holes on the bottom)
19. Headlight glass (1)
20. Horns
21. Windshield molding
22. Headlight reflectors
23. Banjo Steering wheel( another car candy)

So I hope that if I post here I will keep motivated to finish this one. My next post will have some starting pictures. Don

Re: Can old brands be revived?

I find it strange that many perceive a revival as somekind of spiritual resurrection of a bygone era or for reminiscence.

Consider a complete and exact reproduction of any favorite vintage vehicle. Chassis, Body and trim. It would be a good start even if drive train (engine, trans and axle) were to individual owners request. From there begin reproduction of the expensive items such as original design engine and drivetrain.

The Packard world seems to be steeped in somekind of effort to chase the ghosts of PMCC. IF the tri-5 chevy, model A and other similar crowds had done that then there would be even fewer remaining examples of those badges than there is of Packard.

Go ahead. Build glass cases around the originals. But modern platform with a legendary name is only an emblem. Nothing more. And glass breaks real ez.

Hi

No, people shouldn't even try, because every try has produced either a pale imitation or, more often, an embarrassing one the denigrates Packard!

What Packard was, as ScottG points out, was very much a product of it's era. Something that could only come to be within a specific economy and culture. That situation no longer exist, any revival results in an anachronism.

Do the better thing to preserve what was, buy a Packard, any Packard, especially one in danger of being lost. Restore it, share it with others, spread the word about what was, enjoy it's qualities, be it's steward and conservator, carefully find its next generation conservator.

And, never waste resources on new Packard revivals.

Steve

Hi John

Wonderful performance!!!! I got a big charge out of when you exampled the music accompanyment for the silent films.

I was singing along with everyone too. What a prefect instrument the theatre organ is to get those of us with....uh....less than great voices...to sing out in good fun!

Wish you could have had more time to do additional numbers, hopefully Garrison will have you guest star again when they appear at a facility with a theatre organ. If he does, maybe you can get him to add Packard as a 'sponsor'.

Hearing you play makes me envious, must be a marvelous kick to be so talented and skillful with such a difficult instrument. So glad you share this gift with all of us.

In the words of Lawrence Welk "A wunnerful, A wunnerful!!!! John!"

Hello, just an update, engine oil was drained and looked surprisingly good for sitting for fifty yesrs, new oil put in. The trans is different story, the shifter is stuck in second or reverse, and when I removed tran oil drain, it is all tar. My question is how do I handle this? Can I heat the trans with infrared bulb and see if I can liquify this tar? What type of fluid can I safely put in fill port to "cut" this tar so I can drain it? I really appreciate all info. Thanks, Richard
