Re: Work On the 1953 Derham Formal
Home away from home
Home away from home

Stephen Houseknecht
I had realized a while ago that trying to spray the Deep Creep into the plug holes at an angle wasn't getting it to the bore. At least the valves have gotten a good soaking.

So first I tried using a angle straw and the DC blew back because of the flex elbow in the straw. I stopped at a hardware store yesterday and bought three feet of clear plastic 1/4"hose. To get it pliable enough to snake into the bore, I put the hose next to a quartz work light and got the hose hot. I then "intubated" the cylinders and have been able to get DC into the bores excepting #2 and 8.

How have other folks approached getting the penetrating oil into the cylinder bore?

Otherwise I am getting more moving parts moving with the Deep Creep with notable exception of the trunk lock and brake pedal. Also cleaned and arranged the garage more to my liking for working on the car and took the tarp completely off of it. Will post some new images tomorrow at some point.

Hmm. Was starring at daves pic and was thinking a guy could take some small gauge cold rolled steel, some needlenose pliers, and a pencil torch and make a few in a couple minutes yeah?

If it wasn't for those meddling kids, and their dog too...

1952 200 deluxe touring- its a goer...but not a stopper. Just ask my neighbour about her flower bed.

Faux painting is a true art. I speak from experience as my Mrs. does this and veneer work. However, you CAN make a decent example on your own. Check out woodgraining.com. Research your grains first though. As each requires a different method. Also it would be good to know the burl of the original. Owen may be an expert there.

My suggestion would be to first practice extensively on a piece of curved sheetmetal that's been primed accordingly.

I don't know anything about wood-graining but I do know that it's great to see a younger guy tackling this kind of project. I'm sure a lot of folks around here would love to see this project unfold and cheer your son's progress in the project forum (hint, hint!).

Kev, the export models may have had lower compression ratios for the generally poorer grades of gasoline abroad, but a Super Clipper was still a Super Clipper.
