Re: Modern transmissions??

As a owner of Packard, Hudson, Kaiser, and Chrysler products, I can say with certainty that there's little to no parts interchangeability exists between them. The parts that do are things like distributor caps, rotors, points, etc, depending on model. Hudson and Kaiser used Hydramatic transmissions, and that's about the extent of transmission interchange, save for certain overdrive parts.

I would do one of the following:

1) buy a 1954 359 engine and go to a place like Broadway Title who will give you paperwork from Alabama that your state has to accept for application for Title, use the M6xxxxx engine number as number

2) go to a place like Broadway Title and get paperwork on it where 5478-2xxx is the new official VIN number for this vehicle

both of these would be legal

info on this place is at:
http://www.broadwaytitle.com/pricing.htm

I am not affiliated with this Title place in any way

this may cost a few hundred bucks but this is cheap compared to the decline in value of your state riveting a foriegn plate on your call will cause

Mtpackard51: You are certainly forgiven about the typo's you might make. Craig in the past has certainly pointed out some of the mistakes I have made in spelling when I have posted.

Glad to see you are here and being part of the group.

With all you've changed, if electrical the only things I can think of that would kill yet let it still crank would be a faulty ign switch, the flex wire inside the distributor grounding or, if you have one, the OD kickdown circuit. A bad connection at or thru ammeter would kill but should also not let it crank.

Since there is a separate terminal for coil only at the ign switch, maybe put your jumper on the one with several wires instead and see what happens.

Yep, a serious question. Forvibe the stupid ones, I'm still learning.
