Re: 47 Windshield Wiper Motor

Well I gave up on trying to replace the wires, started taking the motor apart and I needed to take the windings out to connect the new wires but I just can figure out how it was put together to take it apart.
So I found a two speed six volt motor on ebay and tried to wire it up but without a wiring diagram it just wasn't going to work. Lucky with the information that Howard gave me, I finally sat down pulled up the Patent 2,357,152 and was able to figure it out. With the switch connect and a few jumper wires and a six volt battery, I watch it go from OFF to SLOW to FAST and when switch to OFF watch it go slow to the PARK position.
Now I just need to add some permanent wires and it will be ready to insult.

Most people use the three legged puller, but a five legged puller is the best and if any thing keep looking because you can usually find a used one at a good price.
I myself found a hyd. puller on ebay, I like because no hammering. Also never strike the end of the puller since there is a block in between the two axles.

I try not to take anything for granted. Wires do break and I would rather be safe then sorry.
The next thing you can check is the Ring (Contact Plate) to the Upper Spring Support. Using an Ohm Meter the Ring (Contact Plate) should rock up and down (One side should go down while the other side stays up.). When it goes down the meter should show zero ohms from open.

Use a wire from a good ground (Lower Cup should work.)and touch it to the center brass disk. If the horn sounds then you know the problem is in the Horn Ring Assy.

ptv, the main difference I noticed is that shifting (while still and engine not running) is that when going from Reverse or First to the Neutral position the shift falls forward like it should. (Due to the spring in the shift column.) Before it was tight in the Neutral position and no play to speak of. Also the Shift Arms look like they're not at too much of a bind.
The other main thing that I was looking at repairing was my Directional Signal Switch, now I've got both Left and Right lights blinking.

So everything is cleaned up and lube, just need to put the battery tray back in and seat back in.

ptv, I did use a spare Bushing - Shaft (3.3305) in place of the rubber bushing. It fit like it use made for it, meaning nice tight fit and still movable.

Thanks Howard, I'll see how it goes.

I'm posting a picture of the Shift Linkage I use when putting it all back together.

I like the old standby, when the kids were younger we would sing Roger Miller songs. They thought it was great and my wife looked at us as if we were nuts. But sad to say the kids are older and not as much fun.:^(

Got everything cleaned up and back together, Using Quick Glow to polish the chrome. Saw this on Jay Leno and figure I would try it. I like it so much I bought another jar. Also painted everything and after a time got it all back in place. Shifter was a little tight, so gave the lower bracket One full turn up to take the pressure off the shift column at the upper collar. Shifter feels good now, can't wait to get it out. Got all lights working on dash and all outside lights working correctly. Checked fans, both working. Maybe while I've got the seat out I need to check the core under the seat for leaks. There are no hoses hooked up to it so I'll need to find a drawing showing how to run the hoses. I removed the rubber at the transmission and install a steel bushing, so we'll see how it works in the near future.
