Kevin, Isn't the one you have one that was cut down from a sedan? If so, you should definitely get one even if you don't install it right away! I did that for my 1956 Clipper and now have one new and one excellent used windshield but, of course, on those the hardtops use the same one as the sedans.

Don, the one in the car right now was apparently cut down from a sedan. It cracked on install (had rough edges) but the cracks haven't gotten much bigger. I found another spare clear windshield randomly in WA (never been installed). That one is still in the box.
But all the rest of the windows are green. So it would be nice to have it all matching.

We're completely gutting the interior of the Panama today. I'm removing all the trim to repaint it all. We almost have the dash out, but ran into some unknowns.

Everything is loose and ready to come out, but this center nut is just spinning the bolt. This is the bracket supporting the steering column.

Also not sure how to get the steering column surround off. I know I need to disconnect the wiper cable at the wiper motor, but can't figure out how the rest of the column is supposed to come off. What an I missing here?

Wow, I didn't see this coming. This is great news.

Yes the convertible/hardtop windshields are very rare. I was lucky enough to find a spare for my Panama but it's clear when it should be green tint. Might need to get the right one now.

Lol, yeah nothing interesting in my username. Always been a fan of your username HPH. Still can't get over the fact that you are 25. I thought I was on the younger end when I got my Packard in my mid 30's. Had hopes to get into it long before that but had to wait my turn.

I have to say that looks pretty good. You have the benefit of your seats being un-pleated. So the sewing is not as demanding and much more straightforward. Based on what I see here I think you may be able to pull it off yourself. But I hear you about the expensive fabric from SMS.

The fabric for my seats ended up being over $800. 4 yards of nylon fabric and 4 yards of vinyl. Leather is original but out of the question for this project (lead time is over a year for leather). I briefly debated doing the seat covers myself and could've had a friend teach me how. But my seats are pleated with tuck and roll, and if I were to make one mistake on measurements and sewing, it would ruin the whole panel and cost me hundreds of dollars. So I'm letting professionals do it instead.

Fuel leaked patched and exhaust leak sorted.

I cut the bad section of carb hard feed line away and temporarily replaced it with 5/16 Fuel hose. There was a pinhole in the seam of that line.

The exhaust leak was is from a slight misaligned in the collector pipe where the two manifolds come together. The two inlet flanges were not square to one another causing a slight gap when bolted to the manifolds. A thicker exhaust gasket fixed that.

Running fine now, no leaks. Back to playing with sheetmetal.

I've used the 5/16 fuel hose for short sections with great success. I continue to check it and will replace it long before it gets brittle.

Glad you were able to fix the exhaust leak with a thicker gasket. I ended up using some exhaust sealant on a new gasket to fix a leak on my dad's '38. Worked great.

Good thing you tested before putting the getting the front end back on. I did the same with my dad's and it made life much easier. Having direct access to the engine without the fenders in the way is nice.

Thanks for the recommendations on shops. Something for me to keep in the back of my mind. Eventually I'll need to have my front bumper redone, and maybe some other parts. I haven't found a decent replacement front, otherwise I would just do that.

That looks like it's lining up pretty well. Did you get the other side on? That's where I started to run into problems on my dad's.

Round bumpers in the front, wedge shaped bumpers along the sides.

Pulling the front clip makes getting to motor out much easier, otherwise that's a long heavy awkward motor to get put over the top of the core support.

Wedge bumpers even on the hood side? I have the 6 wedge bumpers that mount to the fenders (3 on each side).
**EDIT*** - figured this out. Parts list shows 6 wedge bumpers on fenders, and 4 round bumpers on hood opposing the splash shield.

Yeah, I might just be able to do most of the work I need with the front removed. I'm not super excited about doing that, which is why I asked about what is involved with pulling the motor. I guess either way it's going to be a lot of work.
