Yes, thanks Leeedy. Sincere condolences to family and friends. These obit notices of prominent Packard men are always sad to read, but also extraordinary to see their life accomplishments and affiliations. We're all richer for the positive footprint they left behind. Respectfully, Chris Goodfellow.

Yeah, I thought it was something like that Howard. FWIW, I bought a NOS pedal from David Moe of Seattle Packard and I know there are different views and opinions on dealing with him, but I didn't have any trouble and the pedal I received attached to the two metal balls and the top 'actuator' end of the gas linkage. Because it was NOS, the rubber was pretty hard, but I soaked it in boiling water and lubed the holes with dish soap and got them to pop on without splitting. Works perfectly now... along with a bit of a lube and tune-up on the linkage system at the same time. Chris.

Pretty clean looking '40 - 180; would you say it was 'priced to sell' Steve?? They don't highlight the engine in the pics much, and the one they do show is out of focus and looks a little rough. Even so, do you think that price point would make it a 'chaser'? Chris.

Doesn't Steele Rubber Products sell replacement gas pedals? Or do they just repair old originals? Chris.

Thanks for posting, Steve. There is something about looking at history through old B&W photos that I find intriguing. They give one such a sense of 'the time' and when all the small details are scrutinized, they tell quite a story. Chris.

That's interesting Tim. I worked as a chief loadmaster for an airline years ago where we had DC-3's, DC-4's, a fleet of various older helicopters, and a Boeing 737 convertible, but all the DC engines were Pratt and Whitney, so no Packard experience for the mechanics and engineers there. Probably a lot of crossover technology between the two, but there'd still be some certification required. I imagine most of those guys would be retired now, but that is probably the kind of candidate pool they'd be getting their resumes from.

You should have your own 'This Old Car' show on TV, Steve! I'd sure tune in... Chris

Fair enough, Jim, I get it. I hope you can see how your verbiage appeared to be a retort to my comment(s). Thanks for setting me straight. Chris

Is that what that hole is for, Don?? I have exactly the same hole in my car (size and placement-wise) and when I look at spotlights online, it looks like the through-hole size would have to be significantly bigger. I thought maybe it was for an external radio antenna or something??? Chris.
