Bijur One Shot Pump
Home away from home
Home away from home

jimw
I'm sure someone out there has rebuilt one of these and can offer some advice. I am rebuilding the one shot system on my 1929 640. There are two leather cup washers on the pump plunger, one facing up the shaft and the other facing down the shaft of the plunger. The first one that needs to be fed into the tube is the one that is facing open end up the plunger. I am having difficulty getting it to feed into the tube without damaging it. Any suggestions based on successfully getting it done.

Thanks,

Purolator Style Oil filter

Have a new Purolator style oil filter for early Packards (mine is a 1929 640). New, never used. Billet aluminum that screws apart with a replaceable filter inside. 7-1/2" long by 4-1/4" diameter. Fits into strap clamps on side of block and one strap hides the seam. The style for cars with the inlet and outlet are on the same end of the filter. Cost me $470 new, will sell for $350. Does the black plastic piece sit inside the large spring shown in the above picture? If not, where does it go to provide the insulation? There is a small spring on the underside of the horn button. What does it bear against to provide the spring action?

I have the parts book, but, as you say, it is a poor picture and I need to see how it attaches and what other parts might be needed.

Radiator shutter pivot mechanism - 640

Does anyone have a picture(s) of the radiator shutter pivot mechanism for a 640? This is the part that transfers the forward motion from the radiator sylphon to sideways motion for the shutters. Preferable a picture of it in place.

Thanks

1929 Fuel Pickup/Sender at tank
Home away from home

The fuel pickup/sender for my tank is missing. It is the type with a thick disc at the top which the fuel and gas gage lines come out of and with a dome on top. I was speaking to another Packard guy and he said that there is a company out there that makes them, but couldn't remember the name. Anyone know who that might be.

Reorganizing shop. Have several spare original 1929 Oval ignition coils. Have not been tested, but don't show any signs of tar leakage. One has the lock assembly without a key.
