At about what point in the series did these cars become late cars vs early cars? Does this mean that someone might have put an early series front bumper on this car? How do you tell the difference between the early and late front bumper?

Sorry for the late reply, I have no idea if this is the same car as in the movie.

I have had a lot of difficulty finding my way back to this site and don't have a clue why. I go look on the owner's registry and do not see my 48 Custom Eight Convertible, but see my 41 Convertible. However, I do a search and this post and information comes up. I do not know much about the minor differences in the early and late 48 cars, in fact I didn't know there was any difference. The Vin # on this car is 22592919. I would like to know more about what I have.

I have decided to sell the car. I really do not care for the 48 body style as much as the 41 body style. Since I last made any posts to this forum, I have overhauled the engine and installed an overdrive transmission in the 41, thus making it an excellent touring car.

I will sell the car for 68,500.00 which is a good buy on the car.

This is the information I was looking for. My car's body and paint is very good and I do not want to scratch any paint. This information gives me what I was looking for. I got underneath the car today and found three bolts on each fender and some other things to remove. With what you have provided and what I have investigated, I think we will be able to find out what I need to know. I want to get the clip off of the car and then find out how bad the engine really is. It runs ok, but uses a quart of oil every 50 miles, not a good thing. I want to be able to get right up close to the engine, pull the head and see how much taper is in the cylinders. My luck is that an engine never needs just rings and bearings, it needs to be bored, new pistons and the whole nine yards.

Thanks for the information, it is greatly appreciated.

It makes sense to me to remove the engine from the top, but I am having difficulty understanding what bolts etc to remove to take the clip off as one piece, understanding the hood would need to be removed first. Somewhere, I don't know where, I had found a file on the internet that was supposed to tell how to do this exercise. However, is was something that my computer would not open, and I have adobe acrobat reader and several other programs on my computer. I am looking for a procedure of what bolts to take out and remove the front clip as a single piece.

I have a 1948 Custom 8 Victoria Convertible and would like to know how many were made and how many are estimated to have survived.
