The 1999 celebration in Warren, Ohio was the 100th Anniversary of Packard. Terry Martin was just one of the organizers for the event. (It was my proposal in 1988 to The Packard Club that started the ball rolling.) George Hamlin and Art James contributed much to the event as well.

Dr. Alexander brought, not only the Last Convertble, but a 1956 400 and a 1956 Patrician. The Last 1956 400 was brought from Canada.

The last Packard built in Detroit was a Patrician four-door sedan, serial #5682-4775. The car ended up being shipped to the Studebaker-Packard zone office in Atlanta, Georgia, and from there to the dealership in Guntersville, Alabama for final delivery. Its whereabouts today is unknown.

Check with Kanter Auto (800) 526-1096. They had them in stock when I worked there four years ago.

He was George Christopher, not William.

2023 marks the 70th anniversary of The Packard Club, which started in the SF Bay area in 1953. Every master registration packet will include a 70th anniversary history book of The Packard Club.

The book will be over 200-pages, and will be produced by the same printer that publishes The Packard Cormorant magazine. This book will be available for sale to members of the club once the meet is over. Look for details in The Cormorant News Bulletin.

Aside from watching the looks on the faces when the whistle is working, a fun thing I like to do when I fill up our 1948 Super Eight is to place both hands on top of the steering wheel after getting back inside the car. As the folks watch me, I hit the gas pedal and the car starts - and they do NOT know how I started the car!

Below is the link to Bob Palma’s obituary. He was a long-time Packard Club member (his father was a Packard dealer 1953-55 in Paris, Illinois – first as Palma Motors, then Palma-Rhoads in 1955-56 selling Packards, Studebakers, and Nashes). Bob wrote several articles about him for The Packard Cormorant magazine over the years. He was also a Big Time member of the Studebaker Driver’s Club, being the technical expert for Turning Wheels magazine for many years.

Note the name - Olive was the youngest daughter of Warren Packard, and a sister to James Ward Packard and William Doud Packard. Her two other sisters were Alaska - who was the FBI's first female agent - and Carlotta.

And note Max Gilman's signature - he was Packard's president only from 1939 to early 1942.

Also, be sure to spray water on the windshield before trying the wipers. The blades may not move - even if they are working - on dry glass.
