Thanks Ross for taking the time to answer. I don't intend to show this car in a concours so I won't be doing the overspray action. The most attractive paint process would be to spray body color under the fenders and cab. The best solution to quiet the ride and protect against rust would be to undercoat everything. Or, the easiest would be to paint everything underneath black. Guess I'll think a little more and decide which choice is best, Bob

So no one has yet answered my original question. Do I paint the underside of the fenders and the cab body color or black? Should the frame be semi gloss then? How about all the interior? If the exterior is blue, how about the area under the dash and inside the doors? Thanks, Bob

I appreciate the responses and with it the new knowledge. I didn't know that my car was called an opera coupe. I assumed the opera windows and not the rear seats that face each other were the reasons it was called an opera coupe.. I also learned I should paint my car with cheap paint with some runs and sags! My problem is being past 60, my brain is full. So learning these new facts has caused 2 other bits of knowledge to jump out to make room. I am hoping it wasn't something important that I forgot.

I'm getting near ready to begin painting my '38 opera window coupe. I'm going with a dark blue and am wondering if the body color should extend to under the fenders. under the body, firewall, and inside the car. Also, should the frame be gloss or semi-gloss black. I'm not trying to restore to concours condition but may as well paint correctly. Thanks, Bob

I just fired for the first time my "36 six cylinder. I had it bored so new pistons and rings get submerged in engine oil for ease of assembly. You can only imagine the smoke cloud as I didn't think to record it. I had an open exhaust pointing out of the shop and toward the house which disappeared behind the cloud. It sounded marvelous by the way, Bob

I've built many motors but this one has kicked my butt! Not that it was difficult to put together, just obtaining the correct parts has been a chalange. Thanks to all the help from this forum. It is now wrapped up until I get the chassis restored. I'm hoping for smooth sailing, Bob

Thanks to all, I'm going to run the shorter filter in my original photo thanks to Howard's explanation. Where do I find a copy of the data book? I will check for an orifice.

This is not my car but is the same year. My filter housing looks just like this one. So Dave, I'm unclear about "disposable canister" you mention. Isn't this one?

The wrong type of filter? Are you sure? This car has not been altered that I know of. Bob another photo
