Good reason to belong to one or more of the national Packard clubs.

I absolutely agree but the fact still remains that even belonging to a club doesn't help if the item is in a regional newsletter and it isn't your region. The PAC site does not appear to link to any regions to even check. I would think that is something they could look into. O_D, maybe you could make that suggestion since you know many of the movers and shakers.

Incidentally, I did finally find the item mentioned on the brake pedal. It is advertised for 41-7 Clippers which brings the question of fitting the 48. It appears it will but wonder why they listed it as maybe not.

A deficiency?? This is in response to a post in pedal play.

I'm glad someone has a cure for the pedal problem but a little sad that it seems to not be general knowledge. I wonder how many more things have been fixed and are out there but only advertised in a regional newsletter or even in a national publication that maybe 10% of people needing the item would know about or have access to. Some of the lists in the PAC monthly publication are just jumbled together and it's not easy to see or pick something out with a quick look. PI is same and believe even less frequent but I'm not a member there anymore so don't even see it--nor do numerous others not a member of either club.

I know Kev has mentioned before that he would welcome a link to other regions project sites or would be willing to post their products page if they would send it yet no one seems to take advantage of it. Maybe few of the proper people know of this site or want to use it because they have their own. Whichever, it's their loss.

I don't see anything on the PAC site except their own online store. Maybe something is buried in the classified section but that doesn't work on my computer - IE only maybe?? It seems that would be a way for things to be known if there were a regions product area and the project mgrs were encouraged to use it with some publicity. The current "regions" only seems to get an email form.

PI has a site with some info on their club projects. Otherwise, they do have a link to their regions pages. Sometimes, if the region has projects, that will get you a page where there is a link to projects but still a bit cumbersome.

I guess the point of this is so much is probably out there that no one knows about and are there any suggestions of ways to change that.

End of Rant.

Probably wouldn't be that hard to make since there isn't a huge molded hump area to worry about like older but would take some fitting for the one there. Biggest problem will probably be finding the heavy cardboard in a large enough piece. Unless you have a good upholstery place close by where you can buy retail and pick it up, shipping will cost more than the material. Maybe an art supply although think the stuff they have is thin--more like poster board.

I may just end up using a modern foil backed insulation, as one is going to see it anyway.

Was just thinking (dangerous, I know) if you plan on keeping the air vent louvers, think you will have to fabricate something like the cardboard cover to mount them. With just the foil, if memory serves, nothing will be there to hold them as they have little clips that sandwich the cardboard. Also, as mentioned above, there are several welded on screw posts for the heater plenum, valve, etc that are about an inch deep. Those will still be needed -- but the foil only bit will leave a big gap and might be noticeable.

Is yours in good enough shape that you could take the jute off, cover the back of the cardboard with some type glue and then a layer of canvas for strength--maybe even fiberglass or even the foil acoustic stuff if flexible enough-- and then put the jute back on to keep the depth correct for the standoffs under the pad. Maybe after that some spray vinyl or fabric coloring would at least make the lower third you will see passable if there are no large chunks missing.

Wow! How much are they planning to demolish this go around? I thought there was still some kind of legal wrangling going on over some parts of it.

I think at the very least I'd pull the oil pan and check. Oil floating on the water, depending on how much, means the oil pump pickup must have been at least partially submerged in water. Hopefully the engine hadn't been turned over enough to suck any water thru the system or any rust flakes if present.

Quiet ridehttp://www.quietride.com/catalog.html#other lists for a 51-4 convertible which I think would work but would have an extra hole or two up high for the hydraulic stuff. Might be worth an inquiry to see what they can do.

There have been some nice pictures lately. The one I see in random photos right now of the convertible on stiltshttps://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=1000&cid=53 is a sight you don't see every day. Since it is two years old, can only hope and assume the stand was stronger than it looked.

One thing that would surely be nice is if there was a search in the owner registry. I think this was mentioned before but something technical in that module prevents it.

If you have the 10mm plug holes and long battery, Napa lists them both--(check battery length & width measurement old vs new to make sure the new will fit the holder as they are a bit larger). Some have said the battery is also available at tractor supply stores so might be worth checking if you have anything local to see if cheaper.

I would also be very concerned about the water in crankcase--
