Hello,

I have a spare 49 straight 8 engine laying around that's good and I have a chance to maybe pick up a 39 Business Coupe, all complete minus engine. Would this transplant work ?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your opinions. I agree, I think it would still be the same car.I would still be steering, sitting on my grandmothers seats, pushing the same buttons my grandmother did. I would literally only use the naked body shell. Everything else including frame, engine, suspension, dash would be from my original car. This saves me from fabricating all that sheetmetal to basically stripping/blasting and finising.I was out here looking at my packard and when its all back together all you see of the shell is the roof and 1/4's basically.I just finished a resto on a 49 Buick and I could cut YEARS off this one this way.THis parts car is complete, slightly disassembled so I would have many parts for sale.

Thanks

I have a 1950 Packard, all original, rough shape but runs and drives. Its been ready for a body off resto. It has the usual bad places these cars have, trunk, quarters, and rockers need completelly redone. I found a nice parts car that has almost none of these problems. My idea was to buy that and use the body shell only and everything else from mine. My car has been in the family since new, it was my grandmothers car. Some friends of mine are telling me it wont be the same car ??

This guy is good. I just bought one for my 49 Buick which is almost the same as my 50 Packard. I paid $75.00 but Im local to him so no shipping.

LOL !!! No, I don't mind at all, Im flattered I guess you could say. Yes, thats my Packard, it pretty much sits the same way as I type. I started another restoration first on my Buick which has a site that you can get to from my Packard page. I did the Buick first because it was a way more complete car and much better original condition. There is a big history with that car to. BOTH grandmothers cars had their cars and stopped driving them and sat on them like gold until they passed and left them to me.Ive owned both cars 30+ years. The Buick is about complete. The Packard is still together and driving, its rough but gonna go for a full body off resto.I have technically started working on it last year. I had to get new rear doors, hood, and trunk lid. They are all done and in primer. My biggest challenge I think is the passenger rear 1/4 is rotted, and of course the inner rockers. Im familiar with the replacement rockers and floor pans, but I have been contemplating how I am going to do the inner rockers.Ive been looking for a 1/4 panel donor but cant seem to find one so Im also going to form the lower half myself. Other than that, pretty much the usual body off resto.I bought 2 parts cars the last few years, neither of them had good 1/4's but I have a ton of parts, I dissasembeled them 100% and saved everything.
Thanks for the achnoledgement of me, I read this forum daily and am just soaking in the info. I want to tear into the car soon but as of right now I have space issues.

Thanks
Al

LOL, I agree about a 'new" home for the engine !! BUT, the engine in my Packard is good, just needs the usual work. I want to keep my car with all the original parts.THANKS ALOT haha, now you guys have me thinking about another Packard !!I have my hands full, my Buick was supposed to take 4-5 years to do and here I am on year 9, I dont want another 10 year project, Im hoping to do the Packard in 4 or 5 years, at least get it back on the road in that time. Its still driveable as Im working on the new body panels that Im using.I am replacing the rear doors, hood and trunk lid from my donor car and that will keep me busy for awhile.Im going to pull the body off and that also presents a problem with room for me......Al

LOL,

Sorry, I just joined this site and have been reading forums for hours, I see Im a little late with this one but here goes anyways. I have a spare 49-50 288, it runs great, all original with like 65,000 original miles on it.I built this stand for it. The pic doesnt show it but I have a battery, original Packard radiator, with the original bracketry, a couple switches, and muffler on it.What am I gonna do with it ? I start it up and sit there and look at it, like you said, its COOL.Im thinking about just leaving it alone mechanically, and detailing the heck out of it.
