Hello felow Packard Owners-i have some information to share with you and other owners of 1950's era cars. If you have pulled out your hair with the Rochester 4GC carb because of pinholes in the floats and been told by NUMEROUS carb repair and parts places that new replacements simply do not exist (as I have been told countless times). Guess what there is a place that has them (brand new not repaired) Daytona Parts can be reached at (386)-427-7108 and thier email is mail@daytonaparts.com

I am so glad I read these posts my 1955 400 seems to have a similar problem as the 1956 Clipper deluxe posted on 5/24-I don't think there is a check valve on the vacuum supply to the BTV on mine either and when installing a newly rebuilt unit the pedal does flutter and although it stops the car the pedal goes almost to the floor, Can you post a picture of the check valve you installed and where you got it?

The car only had the trunk lid dented=see pics attached. The car will go from PARK into gear on a level surface with NO problem however if it is on any kind of grade the gearshift will lock and get stuck and not go into gear. I am hoping the problem is minor and that a competent transmission guy (if anyone in the Philadelphia area can recommend one) can put it right.

Hello does anyone know of a competent mechanic in the Philadelphia area who can work on the twin-ultra. Let me tell you my tale of woe-had the thing rebuilt by Ultramatic Dynamics and they did a terrific Job-then earlier this year some idiot rear ended me while my car was parked. I got in started it up and then drove to my garage-my driveway slopes downhill so i put it in park-while i opened the garage door-so guess what when I started it up again the gearshift wouldnt budge-finally I got it loose by rocking the car-that did it but it locked up on two occasions since then but I obviously dont want to keep rocking the car to get it loose. Can anyone out there help me?

Re: 1955 Packard- weak brakes

All the brake hose have been replaced this year and the wheel cylinders were replaced in the last couple years-and the system is not leaking fluid. I've bled the brakes and with the engine shut off the pedal is nice and hard just the way I like it, but the minute I fire the old girl up the pedal sinks to the floor.

1955 Packard- weak brakes

Well I rebuilt the treadle-vac, fabricated some new lines, bled the brakes and still-TOO WEAK. after I bled the breaks the pedal was nice and hard but the minute I fired up the engine-my pedal went down to the floor. The brakes were able to stop the car while I took a test drive around my street but way too weak too take it anywhere of any distance. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to solve my problem? (and yes I am considering replacing the treadle vac with something else).
