The car is a 55 400.
The problem is that the rear end is about 3 and 1/2 inches high in back, and the leveling system: control, motor, switches are missing.
Is there any way to level is car without these components?

Thank you for responding, finely was able to load photo. The link you supplied is exactly what was needed. Only the parking pawl was replaced along with front and rear seals. The car shows 37,000 miles So the other components are most likely original. no ridge ring when engine was rebuilt.

Welcome back, I missed you.
I have spent way too much time trying to get this spring clip to lock into place over the square rubber end bushing, and have broken off one of the top tabs on both clips. Any suggestions??
After 10 years of work in progress I am about to refill the dry, 1955 400 Ultramatic, after having the parking pawl replaced. Serious consideration is being given to using Tractor Supply (Traveler) multi purpose ATF suitable for use in place of Dextron 111 or Mercon. Good?? or bad idea?? any better alternatives?
Finally the attached photo shows the steering column/steering wheel spring. Below which is a rivet shaped pin and spring. It has been a couple of years since the picture was taken. I may have combined these parts for some reason, but can not recall why. Anyone out there know where this pin and spring fits?

Could not figure out how to attach picture, please help with other problems.

I'm in the process of installing a new headliner and a 55 400. I would appreciate any suggestions as to what type of insulation to put between the headliner and the roof.

Thanks Howard, for your quick response. It's always good to be able to get feedback from someone who's been there and done that. So I will continue along with cementing the upper and side trim to the seal before installing.
Many thanks, and yes, the seals were from steel rubber.

stainless window trim

I am currently in the process of installing new weather stripping on the front and back windows in 1955 400 and experiencing considerable difficulty in the application of the stainless steel trim. The service manual suggests that the rear window upper trim together with the weather stripping be install as an assembly into the. Window opening. I did this, but one of the compound curved end pieces came lose and I could not reinstall it with the rubber in position. So I took the window out and tried it again with similar results. Next I tried cementing on the trim with mixed results. I would be most interested in hearing any suggestions or comments from people that have experiences with this. As always, past comments and suggestions have helped a lot and are always deeply appreciated.

The SM figure 77 page 26: "tighten the stop screw until the spool bolt... finger pressure ... backed off ... pin inserted at the point...

After having tried this, even with the stop screw tightened down as far as possible, the spool bolt is not close to being snug. The recess in the stop screw is much deeper then the length of the head of the bolt. I have no idea how it would possible to snug up the spool bolt.

Yes they do. Casting dates a couple months apart. I hope to get both off in the next few days.
