Re: New guy from N.C. 1949 23rd Deluxe 8 question about lifter noise

I would check the ignition wiring. Sometimes the ticking from a spark to ground can be confused with lifter noise. Does the car seem to miss/run rough when you hear it?
Just something else to check.

I might be interested in one of the woodies if you decide to sell. I'm in Missouri, so not too far away.

If demand is there I may do a second edition. I find that some things in the book could use some additional coverage. We'll see, it's a big job to get it all together.
Thanks for your interest.

My information was meant to be for overdrives. Sorry for the confusion. I guess I'm using the term top loader incorrectly. My understanding was that "top loader" referred to the floor shift system and didn't include the side shift.

I have 8 or 9 copies left. It's $65.00 (which is my cost) plus shipping.

This may help a bit. It does show the wiper motor and hoses.

Just now reading your blog. It looks like you are doing a great job. I've used the wheel cylinders you have on our car for several years now (14) with great results.

The wheels look great. I'm assuming you intend using that color for the overall car. If you're intending to go all out on originality, the inside surfaces of the wheels should be black with body color only on the outside. Obviously, very few people would know or care either way.

Keep up the great work.

The nob is attached with a set screw isn't it? If I remember correctly, it needs an hex wrench.

Borg-Warner did make transmissions/overdrives for Packard at least as early as the 22nd series. Visually, they seem to be the same as earlier Packard transmissions of the earlier design top loaders.

First, check the point gap. The point cam follower tends to wear an close them. After you get them set, reset the timing.
