Any specific meaning

My prospective car has the number 502 inked on the hood side pinstriping line in the arrowhead at the front of the cowl. Does that have any meaning other than to the previous owner?

The car I am purchasing is listed as a 1937 Packard convertable but the data plate shows 1088-5238. Looking that up it should be a coupe. Has someone modified the coupe to a convertable?
The car has been modernized but the body looks to be original. Thoughts?

my window cranks were old rusted seized up parts with a couple of broken springs. I soaked them in a 20% solution of molasses and water for a couple of weeks. Then I sandblasted them, painted and lubricated with white lithium grease. They look new don't they? I have two more not cleaned up with some broken parts if you need something to work with.

I assume that you have a 4 pax Opera Coupe.
If so the rear side windows should be the same as mine. Only difference is the lack of rear doors meaning the front door pillar is straight not curved to allocate for the rear wheel well.

Please note that my car is a 526 sedan but I believe the rear side windows may be the same less dimensions.

My 28 is similar. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other wood shots as I am still framing.

Re: 1928 Packard 526 straight 6 Radiator

Beware.
Brassworks made me a radiator and said they had a sample of a 1928 to get dimensions. The cost with shipping was almost $3,500. Problem was that they did not put a drain cock in the lower outlet pipe and the upper pipe was not long enough to come over to my upper inlet fitting on the engine. I had to have a local radiator shop do modifications.
Otherwise the radiator looks good and is of very good quality.

It is your lucky day. I needed new bow ties for my 28 526 and somewhere found some reproductions. They are bronze and rough cast but with some grinding, buffing and re-nickled, they are perfect.
I have one rough casting plus the backing plate that I will part with. Please IM me for details and your mailing info.
In the photo you see an original junk yard bow tie with massive rust and corrosion. You also see the reproduction casting. Also the last view is of the one with a couple of hours of grinding and polishing with the new nickle plating. 1928 cars are the last of the nickle era and the brightwork is not chrome. I believe the plating cost me about $20 each ( I had 5 plated with other small items for my car so the cost is just an estimate.

As for the bright trim, I just had my metal fabricator cut me out strips of polished stainless. Looks like original and will not rust in place.

My 526 had the same problem. Turns out that my battery was not charged enough and would not spin the starter fast enough to engage the bendix pawl. Check the battery.
