Re: 1941 Packard 160 woody?

I didn't think they offered a wagon on that chassis either, but the picture on that website is absolutely gorgeous. Another custom-bodied chassis, perhaps?

Does the green Connecticut car resemble this one, or is it a more 'conventional' woody?

This is the image I'm referring to...

1941 Packard 160 woody?

Dan
I was surfing the web for a Packard desktop wallpaper when I came across the following site...

http://oldcarandtruckpictures.com/Packard/1940.html

On that page is a picture of a 1941 Packard 160 station wagon.

Do any of these exist? I hope so, because it's one of the most beautiful woodies I've ever seen!

The pic on this site almost looks like a Packard ad or promo, though, so that's why I made this post.

And NOW, the Big 3 are doing what Packard couldn't do...

...as this article in the NY Times explains...

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/03/business/03auto.html?hp

Interesting, isn't it, that 50 years later the companies that helped put Packard out of business are now in the same boat?

Another irony is that more than likely, the government is going to do SOMETHING to help bail out the car biz, after refusing to help Packard back then.

(And yes, I confess I stole the title of the other post and twisted it a bit....

If I recall correctly, wasn't Packard the company that introduced the H-pattern gearshift?

Oz, would LOVE to own a Packard! I'm thinking '47 coupe...or '55-'56 coupe (I'm intrigued by the torsion-bar suspension and by how they managed to style/engineer them in such a hurry and ALMOST succeeded...)...

Finances will have to improve, though. And a garage would be nice...

I hang around this site because I love automotive history and grew up riding around in Packards (Dad had a '47 Clipper as the family car from the late 50's until 1965-'66 or so...)...

But I don't own a Packard.

I'm curious re other forum members...

Is it just me, or are there a fair number of '57-'58 Packards out there?

Dan
This is just an impression...but for such low production numbers, there seem to be a fair number of '57-'58 Packards out there.

Or does Ebay bring them all out of the woodwork (or barns, garages, fields... ...?

But isn't it BETTER that it DOESN'T???... (I am NOT SERIOUS, just repeating past Packard "wisdom"...)

Well, I thought this topic was over and done with...lol...but on Ebay right now, there's a '48 Packard sedan with a 6-cylinder engine!

I counted the spark plugs to make sure before I added this response...
