For those who want to spend some extra $$$, Max Merritt offers duplicated Packard factory key blanks for $10 each. I think the keys are on their website.

It would be interesting to know the production number of the car in which the engine was originally installed. The production number of the car is stamped on the engine block on the front top horizontal surface slightly to the right of center near the oil fill pipe. Is the number still there? If so, please share it with us. Thanks.

Owen is correct. The first vehicle in 1951 was 24XX-2001.

Welcome to the world of Packards. As a suggestion, join the local Packard club. There are several 1955 experts in the club who can offer coaching and ideas on acquiring parts as required. There are many 1955 Packard parts that are still available at the local NAPA store if you know the generic part number. There is a place on this site to find that info.

The local Packard Club website is:

http://www.lonestarpackards.com/

There are also two national Packard clubs where you can find more info:

http://www.packardclub.org/

http://www.packardsinternational.com/

Please join the Lone Star Club. They are active and can offer a lot of advice.

Best wishes

Looks like my notes suggest that Leno's Caribbean was a solid "N", Agate? Is "Agate" is gray? Anyone actually seen his data plate?

In the days before bondo, lead was used to blend the contours in the hoods of the Caribbeans for the hood scoops. Therefore the hood is very heavy and the prop rod is needed to keep the hood up...springs just woundn't do it. You'll note Jay's comment in the video about the weight of the hood.

Go to Jay Leno's Garage website to hear about his 1955 Caribbean.

Enjoy.

I'd vote for the 56 Pontiac 2 door hardtop for both the rear window and the light bar.

Bob,
Glad to see your post. You have wealth of Packard knowledge to share and I'm sure there will be many who will benefit from your experience. Good luck with your project.
