Although not even on my radar to look for it, by chance I found the 2-way Motorola radio! This photo shows only the control head and speaker as the radio itself is huge so has taken some searching to figure out where it mounts.
I have still not located the Federal WLR siren and I realized that I also need the door spotlight with mirror which I believe is the same as that used on passenger cars. Does anyone have one that is NOT in pristine condition to better match this rough car? Also, does the R11 OD solenoid have a flat gasket behind it in addition to the seal on the shaft? Does the governor have some kind of sealing ring such as a gasket or crush-washer? UPDATE: I have located and purchased a Unity siren/mirror and NO, the overdrive solenoid does not use a gasket or even the adapter that the earlier R9 units had. Still looking for the Federal WLR siren but I did find and buy the special cast bronze base that it needs.

Have you tried Max Merritt for NOS pieces? They’ve surprised me with all the odd bits and pieces that they’ve been able to supply for my Henney-Packard.

I don’t recall ever having to energize a solenoid in order to install it. Is that something specific to prewar units?

As Howard says, 100% will typically be to their printed catalog, not to the PDF or to anything printed at home as there are too many variables involved. You have your screen resolution, whether or not the screen has been zoomed and if printed, that you are using the same size paper as the original and that you are printing at 100% which is set through your print driver. Printing from a mobile device typically does not give the options to print actual size.

Maybe before going through all the trouble, check that the seat is going as far back as it should and not binding anywhere. I can’t speak for 1948-1950 but on my 1939, I discovered the hard way that with the seat all the way back I could not even reach the wheel much less the pedals!

If hydraulic lifters, then they are not adjustable so one less thing to worry about!

The proper starter for the 359 does not have a Bendix as I recall. Instead the solenoid itself, which is quite large and can be replaced only by removing the starter, engages it. In any event, for all these cars, the starters will physically interchange so no worries switching from one to another if you prefer.

That’s interesting as the Delco used was apparently standard on the 359 with no Autolite option as far as I know. In any event, the Delco in my 1954 Patrician has always readily started it. I recently bought an NOS solenoid for it which I’ve net yet needed to install as the original is still going strong.

On my 1956, the shop that installed the tires also does wheel powder coating so it killed two stones with one bird. Maybe there’s one like that near you!
