That's interesting. I called a few days ago and they did not have any.

Does anybody have a source for rod bearing nuts for a 1937 120 engine? Not the castellated ones but the ones used with the Palnuts.

Well folks once again that "readin" thing has sucked me in. I got a rebuild kit from one of our Packard suppliers and in it I found a rope type rear seal along with the two little pieces of wood that are part of the rear seal. While looking for the directions for installing a rear seal I skipped the paragraph that preceded the procedure which VERY CLEARLY stated there is no rear seal in the 1935-47 Six and Eight. Instead I read the procedure which in bold print identified it as the 1940-50 Super8, All 1951-53.
Damn!!
Doing my best to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Thanks for the polite help.

I'm going back together with my engine. I have a Motors Repair manual I'm working with. It leaves a lot to be desired.
In reference to the rear main seal. Does the "ring" on the crank, just aft of the bearing, cut into the rope seal? I don't see how the rope seal could fit on either side of the ring. It will be a tight fit and I don't see how the crank will rotate freely.

1937 valve spring keepers

There are 2 different styles of keepers. Half are the "standard" 2 part keepers that I'm accustomed to seeing before. The other 8 have a slot in the stem that a key would slide in I guess.
On the '37 engine did the intake and exhaust valves have different keepers?
Do the ones with the key have a different washer between the keeper and the spring?
Will my old valves work if they are serviceable? They have the 2 piece keepers.

BDeB appears to be correct.
The new block is the old style.
My last concern is the front cover plate refereed to. What's different?

I took the back plate off the water pump to line up the holes. I guess the old block had the wrong water pump "sort of" installed.
Holes line up on the NOS block except for the one above the water tube.

Here are pictures of the front of the 2 blocks. Below the blocks are the casting marks(dates) of the blocks. The one on the left came out of the car. The one on the right is a NOS block. The one with 45 has small tappets the one on the right marked 46 large tappets. The areas in yellow are where the holes don't match.

Sorry, i was referring to the pressure and return lines for the filter and not the actual canister mounting holes.
However that just brings up more questions about holes.

Is there a service bulletin that describes the addition of an oil filter?
