Dave, thanks. Today we'll visit a Packard in a museum located in Moscow. Not the smallest one. To visit the museum in its entirety would take up a lot of time. Let's say, just hypothetically, that we would confine ourself to visit only one of its various departments, as for instance the war department. But even this restriction wouldn't really help, it can't be done in a day. To conceive an idea of its vast extent imagine that its collection of tanks alone consists of almost 100 vehicles (even 170 acc. to other sources) - and it doesn't claim to be specialized in tanks. The talk is of the property rooms of Mosfilm, a film studio which is known for its epic movies.

Well, in the whirlpool of war events almost everything was possible. But let's not forget that Bulgaria had an official Packard importer.

Quote:
...Their dealership network overseas as of 1938 was very extensive and included Albania, Arabia, Argentia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Boliva, Brazil, British East Africa, British Honduras, British West Indies, Bulgaria, Burma, Ceylon, Chile, China, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czechoslavia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, England, Estonia, Finland, France, French Indo-China, French West Indies, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Hawaii, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, Netherlands East Indies, Netherlands West Indies, Newfoundland, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Palestine, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippine Islands, Portugal, Portugese East Africa, Puerto Rico, Rhodesia - Northern and Southern, Roumania, Salvador, South-west Africa, Straights Settlement, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Union of South Africa, Uruguay, Venezuela, & Yugoslavia...
[according to OD]

This link leads to a current Packard offer in Bulgaria.

According to this source the below shown car is a 1941 Clipper. I don't know what that Packard brought to Bulgaria but to find back home the odds are long.

Re: Flea Markets vs eBay

Guscha
I use ebay for selective buying but flea markets and swap meets for browsing and self-forgotten rummaging.

... Still, I wouldn't pass up a bargain even if it was a duplicate or triplicate to what I already have...

Sometimes I'm even tempted to buy parts for cars I don't own and I like it to burrow through despised boxes from local occasional vendors. I try to understand the function of unknown parts or in the best case to recall their origin. BTW, contrary to popular belief dealers often like it when you rummage through their bargain bins since customers attract customers.
To exchange experiences, listen to the old stories, to have a long close look at something you haven't seen for thirty years, to eat a bratwurst and breath air without choking tie, all that means flea market to me. Ebay is a faceless buying source.

Keith, the North Cape might look like an ideal place for a house but it isn't. Coldness, months of darkness, wind-exposed wasteland - an inhospitable location but interesting overlook for tourists.

Knowing your yen to see distant places I used google to get an impression of a Nordkapp adventure on motorbikes.

Dave, I recall Johann Berg as if it was yesterday and I additional recall that I owe you a Cuban cigar.

Today again pics taken at the above mentioned auto club in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Dave, the "Reviving a Car from Long Hibernation" article would be a great addition to the FAQ section.

Ken, the riot factor: bombastic! (no muffler ...) But cool? I believe it would more probably be a hot adventure to drive this hottie, back to back with the roaring engine.

Kevin, I thought it is homemade but now, on second thought, I believe you are right.
The steering system was mechanical but covered by a double bottom, either underride guard or for aerodynamic reasons or both, however, not visible and therefore no pics.
