In the manual they are referred to as the "support upper arm" and "support lower arm". But I've seen the bushings sold for these as both support arm bushings and control arm bushings.

In any case I guess I can get both of these from Kanter or Max Merritt?

One thing that is also bothering me. The manual says: "Two types of upper support arms are used in the Packard suspension systems. The one type incorporates rubber bushings at the inner end of the arm and these are not replaceable. On cars equipped with this type of upper arm, the arm and pivot bracket is replaced as an assembly. The other type arms incorporate threaded bushings at their inner ends and these bushings are serviceable."

Was the other type of support arms used in the torsion level cars and the other cars in the ones that didn't have the torsion level?

I need to replace some bushings on my Packard. I'm not so good with the English technical vocabulary. Can someone please tell me if control arm and support arm are the same thing?

Might be time to go to plan two or use O_Ds suggestion. I inquired about buying Mr. Porter's carpet a couple of years ago via email and he never responded.

He may be old school who prefers the phone so since he doesn't list it in his ad not sure he uses email -- at least to do Packard business. I've ran into several vendors who don't often use computers.

I like original looking but it doesn't have to be exactly as it left the factory. Another vendor had something I liked in a plush pile carpet kit with a great color match so went that direction. Not sure he still offers kits but If you don't hear back and are not that strict into authenticity it might be an option.

Well, at the moment I don't have a carpet at all and don't really have any reference to an authentic Packard carpet so I may go with plan B here if I won't get a reply from Neal. Ready kits would be the best option I think.

We were in a local shopping centre with my girlfriend. My 55 400 was parked in the parking hall. When we were done shopping and went back to the car I noticed something under the windshield wiper. First I thought it was a parking ticket. Instead someone had left me a very nice note which (roughly translated from Finnish) said: "One of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. A magnificent car!" I was quite happy for the rest of the day. :) And this was before I got the Packard painted!

Sent him an email a few days ago. No reply as of yet. Hopefully soon. :)

Thank you Roger!

I wonder if Neal has an email address. It might be quite expensive to make a phonecall from Finland.

Owen_Dyneto: Where do I find the newsletter? I'd like to contact Neal Porter.

JoeSantana: I might ask SMS if they have sets ready. The materials are perfect but as a paying customer I'd like to have some honesty about the delivery times. I was told it takes 1 month for the stuff to arrive but instead it took 6 months. Long waiting time wasn't a problem at that point though. Overall I'm very happy with SMS's quality and will probably use their services again in the future.

Thank you guys. It seems that the dark blue is the right one so I'll go with it.

Now where should I get the carpet? I have all the other materials for my seats and dashboard from SMS but it took forever to get them. Kanter also has carpet sets. Does anyone know how they compare to SMS's carpets? Does Kanter have the correct dark blue color and texture?

So was there a specific colored carpet for the trim 82 or is it possible that different cars with trim 82 had different colored carpets?

At the Packard Post War material cards pdf I could find these carpets available for 55: dark blue, dark gray, brown, turquoise, red, black, sardonyx.

Here's a link to the pdf:https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/article/view.article.php?518

How do I know what is the original color for my 1955 400 with the trim code 82? The dealer upholstery book doesn't say anything about carpets. Also were the carpets originally cutpile or loop?
