Well, Ms. Hattie has been sold, and I will miss her very much. She has given us, and those that have seen her, a lot of joy. I know that the new owners will experience similar joy, and wish them the best of times.
The car sold for $17,500.00 at the auction. I felt that she was well sorted and detailed so that I think that she was one of the most beautiful cars at the auction.

OK, I know that this is probably the wrong place to mention this, but I had to put it somewhere (don't tell me where ).
Anyway, Mecum is holding an auction next weekend in Denver, CO. Since I've had little response to my various attempts to sell my '50 Standard 8 Touring Sedan, I've entered the car in the auction (Lot #295) here:

Wow, I never thought that this subject would bring such interest and brilliant ideas. The original Packard engineers would be proud.
My thoughts were to avoid the loss of the modern MC and booster that I had already bought and installed. My hope was to come up with some sort of pedal mounting bracket assy. That would use the original pedal and finish with the pedal in as close to original as possible. And with all that be easy to make and install, and look 'factory' That's not much of a wish list, is it? My mom always would reply "People in Hell want ice water, too!"

Any Recent Develoments In The BTV Relacement Brake Pedal Front?

I guess it's that time of the year to start planning for my Packard issues to work. You know, the ones that I can finish or work with temporary fixes that I can still enjoy and use the car and finish at a later time.
One of these temporary fixes was the cumbersome brake pedal configuration that I made with the BTV replacement project. It is not only cumbersome and ugly, it is not really safe, in my opinion. It is also kind of an embarrassment when I show the car. There has been some promising ideas, but none that I, or the originator, are confident in their implementation. - Of course there is the return to the BTV and scuttle any plans to upgrade to disc brakes. - The folks at 'Michiana Packard'' mentioned an adaptor to affix a modern MC to the BTV. -- HH56''s brake pedal linkage to allow for the use of the original brake pedal mounting. Any other ideas or thoughts are gladly appreciated

OK, will do. I did notice something else, in the TL motor. When the armature was removed, I inspected the brushes and found that one side's spring was very weak if any at all. Is there a TL motor brush rebuild kit available?

Howard, I had the same thoughts, but wanted a second opinion as to the removal of the short bar's bracket.
I have my old compensator taken apart and have a question. Does the ring-gear 15.947 actually turn during operation? (If it does turn, the one on my old unit is hard fixed to the bottom half of the case). I still need to remove and inspect the compensator that's on the car. I hope to do that soon. I'll follow the SM closely for removal and re-installation. I gotta get a passing grade on this final at PU

The components are as pictured, in their correct orientation. Lifting the car makes no difference in any of the TL components, but must be done to get access to work on any TL components. Things must be methodically undone in order to gain access to remove the next thing, kinda like one of those puzzle boxes. The same goes for re-installing the TL components. EDIT: All of this caution is necessary to avoid unleashing 'the TL beast'!

Since I must remove the compensator, I am feeling like I'm about to take a final exam in the TL class at Packard U. (PU?) The last time I did this, I had help of a strong friend, who bullied his way to install the compensator and drag-link connections. He is not available to help and I need to finesse my way to graduation.
Is there a step-by-step procedure that takes into account things like: - Transverse bar ends too close to the frame to get the drag-link socket and ratchet on. - No clearance to remove the inner Transverse bar ends once the end caps are removed with the drag-link socket. - etc.

Thanks for the info, with which I can proceed. I don't think there is any load on the transverse bars, as I can easily rock them by hand. I should be able to remove the compensator and transverse bars for inspection.
I had replaced the compensator assy., limit switches and transverse bars with parts that I got from Mike Dillinski (sp) during my last TL fiasco. I might be able to use parts from my old compensator, if they are good.
