I love the easy access from the body-off. I'd like a lift too: it would ease any under-body work.
Question: have you (or anyone else) tried the same method for 22nd/23rd series? Does it work as well, and are the body bolts for this series in approximately the same locations?

Yes, I definitely understand.
Spoke to the owner today, and he's not being realistic on the price at all. Oh well, probably for the best. I just hope I'm able to find another with all the same equipment on it.

Wow, I completely forgot about the generator! And until I was looking at the photos hours after I'd visited the car, I realized dang! The gas tank was missing! Then I saw it in the trunk. Jeez.
Once I got under the car, I saw all the places where the floor has rusted through. Are reproduction floor pans available for the front pans, or, given the trunk floor is rusted through as well, are you just better doing a body off and replacing the whole floor? Thoughts? Also, how does that oil filter work? Meaning, where is the pump + line in, and line out? Can't quite see a clear path. I probably just need to look at a manual to understand it.

Thanks. I was wondering if that was it. Doesn't look like the master cylinders I'm familiar with, but then, this is a Packard. I'm learning. The item I'm referring to that I believe is missing is a cannister not shown, that would be held in place via a bracket that should be bolted to the block next to the oil tube. You can see the studs sticking out where something should be bolted in pic 37, just above the freeze plug. Upper right hand corner of this pic, you can see the top of the cannister I'm talking about. Is it a vacuum chamber or something?

I agree: that Custom 8 is worth more than $5,500. I've seen some for sale for about $8,500+ I still think that'd be a deal for a Custom 8.
So, I went to look at the Coupe this weekend. I crawled all over the car and took tons pictures everywhere I could. Feel free to check out the album below and comment Bottom line: it's a very neat car. I would love to tackle the project, but it's hugely daunting, given how much work it needs. An upside is that the car came very well-equipped, and it seems to have all it's parts. But that's a small upside. There appears to be rust on every visible surface. Looking within the engine compartment made me realize I don't know everything I'm looking at, especially on the side of the compartment with the battery. Don't know what that large drum-like object is at the bottom, nor that module next to what looks like a vacuum advance off the distributor. Was also looking for the brake MC, and wasn't sure I was finding it. There should be a large cannister being held in a bracket off the engine, which is missing - but I don't know what this is. Any guidance is appreciated! http://s625.photobucket.com/albums/tt332/NoHoArtsDistrict/Automobiles/1948%20Custom%208%20Club%20Coupe/

Thanks for the link to that ad: that should certainly give some perspective. I still think that coupe is overpriced for it's condition, though it's way more in line than the one I'm going to look over.
Jeez, that seller thinks their car is in number "4" condition. That pretty optimistic. I think both of these are Number 6 or below. You're right, I have seen some very decent looking 4-door 22nd series (standard, deluxe and customs), as well as some 2 door (not customs) for very reasonable prices. Definitely makes me wonder why I'd even consider this car, but location plays a big factor - this car is two hours from me. And for whatever reason, I don't see an abundance of 22nd series pop up here in LA that are reasonably priced. Figured it couldn't hurt to go visit this one to look at it. Will report back my findings with some more detailed and decent photos.

I know what you'll all say. Yet, I'm still interested in the car. I figured I would at least go take a look at it in person.
I've never performed a visual inspection of a Packard before. What specifically should I look for on this model? Other than the obvious major flaws this particular car has?

Interesting! Thanks for the information guys. I didn't realize this until I started the other thread about the coupe I'm looking at.
