Re: Pertronix - good price

I noticed after I installed the Pertronix, I had to retard the timing. Other than that, I see no difference in acceleration or any performance when the car is in motion. I only noticed the easier starts both when the engine is cold and when at operating temp.

I just installed a Pertronix on my '41 160. I had to reverse the pick-up before it would fit in the distributor and had to drill out the hole for the pivot pin one size larger. The tech support from Pertronix was excelent, they seemed very knoledgeable. I get much faster starts with this unit. I think it has a much hotter spark with the matching coil. Well worth the price.

I bought one of their deluxe kits a few years ago. If you are looking for original, these are not for you. I just wanted to cover the bedford cord so my wife would be more comfortable. The fit and quality was great. I bought a pattern that would look 'of the period' and was totally satisfied.

Re: Float for a 1929 packard carb. needed.

I had the same problem with a carburetor from a 626. If your float has too much solder it will be too heavy for the gasoline to lift all the way to shut off the gas. I used a good float from a '15 Dodge Brothers carburetor (stromberg, I believe), and it solved the problem. The float is very nearly the same size. It worked great.
