Re: '38 1608 V12 Project

My engine is ready at the machine shop and I will pick it up Friday.

I recently picked up a Motor Dictograph system for my 1608. Even though it isn't a divider car it had the recoiler for a Dictograph system in the armrest.

I have included a close up pictures of the recoiler. The recoiler in the car had a short tubular extension.

I have I no idea how this thing is wired and what the rectangular box is for.

Any technical help is appreciated.

I posted this under Pre war, but thought it should be here.

There is an interesting story accompanying this candid photo of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Moyle Sr. Moyle was the Principal behind the Marquette Cement Company in Oglesby, Il. We had dinner with his Great Grandson in Whitefish, Montana this week and he remembered hearing about the car.

In June of 1949 the Moyles boarded the Queen Mary on a trip to Mr. Moyle's childhood home in Cornwall England to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary and brought this car along with Nephew Albert Moyle to be their chauffeur.

They listed it as a limousine, but I can't see the divider. It is definitely earlier than '38 due to the single windshield. The plate is from '37 and it looks to be a 5 or 7(most likely?) Touring Sedan, either a Super 8 or Twelve.

Can any keener, more knowledgeable eyes comment?

Any ownership records exist?

Colin, the theft proof number is stamped in the firewall. They are large raised numbers.

Colin,

Ok, based on what I know, that translates into car number 1132-2019. Yours is earlier than mine, 2033.

That would make it a 1607 on the 134" wheelbase, if I am correct.

There are casting dates on the front timing cover and the oil pan. Mine were in August of '37.

Colin,

Mine is chromed metal. I am not sure if that is correct but I have a very early car. Advertising of the period seems to show wood grain (paint). It is metal not real wood.

Colin,

My '38 7 passenger touring Twelve is very original and I would call it a dark Pewter. I will post a picture when I get a chance.

Ok, found a regulator. Now the question is what type of fasteners were use to attach it to the firewall.

I am guessing some form of sheet metal screw.

Hex, slotted, oval???

Thanks Dave,

I think I figured out the 3 vs 4 hole question.
