Thanks guys for the welcome!

Interesting. I believe I did know Ultramatic was officially introduced with the 1950 23rd series, but I'm positive I read that some of the re-badged 22nd series 1949 Packard Customs could have come with Ultramatic. Maybe wishful thinking on my part.

Yes, Bill Jones' convertible is the car I want. And I even saw it for sale, when it was for sale. Unfortunately, I wasn't in a position to purchase it at the time, and still am not! But I hope to change that sooner over later.

early 1949 22nd series Custom 8 Convertible/Coupe question

Hello everyone.

This is my first posting here. I do not yet currently own a Packard, but do plan to.

I'm interested in owning one of the "early" 1949 22nd series Packards. I would love to own a Custom 8 Convertible in the beautiful Packard Ivory color, but considering only 215 were built, I guess just locating one would be a good start.

What I would dearly love to find is a 22nd series Custom 8 convertible with Ultramatic. Does such a Custom Convertible exist? I much prefer the 22nd series Custom trim over the 23rd series. From my research, it seems the early 1949 22nd series Packards that were re-numbered as 1949 models could have come with Ultramatic.

Can anyone confirm that these cars could have/did come with Ultramatic in the 22nd series trim?

Barring not finding a 22nd series Custom Convertible, I would certainly consider a Custom Club Sedan as a very worthy alternative, although I would hope to find one in the same trim configuration, also with Ultramatic. A rare combination, I'm sure.

I appreciate everyone letting me know their thoughts.
