Swapping a 56 rear axle with TT seems hard to find and still no gearing choices?

I have a 53 patrician. Has anyone attempted to use rear end gears or an LSD from a different vehicle in the packard axle to change the ratio or add limited slip? Looking at an overdrive trans but dont need to cruise at 90 mph.

Thanks
John R.

The custom 8 line was dropped for 51 and the 400 replaced the super deluxe 8. Was there ever plans on what the 51 custom 8 would have been and a name.

Thanks.

Thanks all, I bought a 53 Patrician. 2 tone green, just trailered it home. When I pulled it off the trailer and in the drive way it puked about 2 quarts of power steering fluid on the ground so I have a leak to fix so I can drive it, but I am excited to have my 1st Packard. Will work on it this evening. I may start another topic about power steering if I can't figure it out.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the help. Inthink the wise thing is to rent truck and trailer and tow it off the ground.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I have to go 390 miles. I dismissed driving it. The current owner has only driven 100 miles at a time max, but several years ago once.
Thinking tow dolly at 45 mph with driveshaft out. Could rent a truck and trailer too. But would need to figure out how to get there. Cleveland to philly.

John

If i buy i will add it to the registry.

Going to look at my 1st packard Saturday. 53 patrician. Planning to use tow dolly and go slow. Could back on and tie steering wheel or head on and drop drive shaft. Opinions? Is dropping the driveshaft a big deal? Tow vehicle cant handle extra weight of full trailer.

One big issue you need to remember is that the straight 8 has siamesed intake ports. The first cylinder can "steal" gas from the second, causing lean and rich cylinders. The TBI may not give as much of a problem with this as a Port Injection Setup that doesn't have injector timing capability (many more basic after market EFI's). However I would have a wide band O2 sensor on the 2 exhaust of the siamesed cylinders that fire the closest together. If there is a problem port injection with injector timing capability will likely be your only solution. Megasquirt EFI can do this. The British turbo Mini guys would be a good resource on implementing EFI on a engine with siamesed intake ports.

Regards,
John
