I know you're a stickler for authenticity so to get one that looks exactly the same will probably be good used from a parts car. I don't see a part number to try a vendor but maybe you'll get lucky and find one who knows exactly. If you want modern, then a good local industrial supply house should carry something that will work.http://fittingsandadapters.com/90hoselclams.html

That cruddy L shaped thing is your heater connection on the rear of engine head, right side. Should thread into the same plate that supports the Ultra throttle linkage which then bolts into the head over the water opening. Make sure the plate hasn't been distorted by tightening bolts too much or it can leak. Mirror image piece on L head has the temp sender threaded into it.

One interesting thing is the optional 2.87 rear end in a Patrician. Doesn't seem to be that common. Great for the wide open spaces but does Pennsylvania have any of those where you can put it to advantage? Be interesting to see if the trans has any of the mods mentioned in some service counselors for the Clippers with that ratio to have the shift points fall in line.

That works nicely and does give the option of keeping the parking lights only position. Here more places are wanting headlights on even in daytime and it is illegal in so many others to drive with the parking lights that it was not a consideration to keep the separate function. I still like the idea of relays for headlights though. Randy Berger did it on his 56 and I thought it was a good idea.

Not sure exactly how you planned the relay -- parking lights only or headlights as well but a separate protected source via relays for headlights is a nice thing -- just gets a bit more involved with a relay for high and low beam but taking the high current out of a 60 year old loom and switch might be worth it.
If you planned a single relay only for parking lights and your auto stores carry Douglas or "bullet" connectors in the .156 sizehttp://www.wiringproducts.com/contents/en-us/d100.html maybe a simpler way would be to make a dual pigtail in a "Y" configuration using a male and two female connectors. I would use 14ga wire but Packards loom seems to be a bit smaller--maybe 16ga. Remove the gray wire from the headlight terminal on switch. Plug the male pigtail end into there and the headlight wire in one of the female receptacles. Remove the pink wire from parking light terminal and plug into the other receptacle and parking lights will come on at same time. One caveat is the wiring diagram shows a dark green wire also on the park terminal. I don't remember if it is separate but it goes to the ign switch illumination. If it is part of same bullet as pink wire you can either leave it and have the ign key light on all the time with headlights or separate it and use another bullet to connect back to the park terminal to restore the ign light only in first notch option.

Re: need information on packard radio Serial Number PA382042

Yesterday's Radio shows the one in question as only 41-2 so would that be for all models or just certain ones? The 382042 with the bottom controls lists as 42-6-7 so that must be the for the prewar Clipper as well.
The parts manuals don't appear to have an accessories section like the later ones do and I can't immediately find anything else that lists which numbers go to which model.

The radios are different and believe PA382042 in original post is not the correct number--more likely the second number in post 6 & appears to be for 41-2
As an aside, what frequencies does Russia use? I notice Packard is numbered 6 to 16 for roughly 540-1650Khz in North America but the ZIS is 1 thru 9.

I think the question is the parking lights. Those normally are on only in the first or park position but yours are on with the headlights. Must be the new Painless loom.

That's the self resetting circuit breaker or thermostatic overload relay as Packard called it mounted to the back of headlight switch. If it's cycling with switch on there is a large overload or short in something the switch feeds but if off, a short in switch itself as you surmise. Kind of surprising. Several reports of switches making poor contact & lights dim or flicker but none shorting that I remember.
