Re: Don and Rachel's 1937 1095 120CD and 1098 Coupe Projects

Don 37
Here are a couple of photos of the parts car I aquired in Oklahoma. I am going to take the needed from it to use to replace the parts of the business coupe that burned up in the fire. I did not have a full hood extra. The one I did have was missing the internal mechanisms. So I have bought another one to make it a complete hood assy.. I don't think I will use the Banjo in the second photo on this coupe. Might save it for a long term project down the road.

ID plate and Title of the 1098 Bus Coupe

Don 37
Did some research on this id plate with holes thru it. Narrowed the dealer down to two from the list on this site. Evanston Wy and Evanston Il. Using deductive skills from gleaning the title (shown) Evanston Il to the titles location Kendall Il is only 72.5 miles. So I believe I am safe to say this 1098-4097 car came from Il originally. I will get a repo ID plate and transfer the information from this plate to it. And of course keep the original in the glove box.

Here are a few pictures of our 1937 120 Business Coupe (1098) that has just got to our house from Wisconsin. After rethinking we are not in a position to do two cars at once. I am going to put all the missing parts we have and put on this car. Then put it into storage. Either do it at a later date or sell it.

I have a good friend here close that just had a grille rechromed at a shop in Nashville TN for 750.00. So if it can be replated 2600 seems out of line I do have an extra grille as the grille I have for my sport coupe is a CD grille and is different so the old one is extra. I will post later this eve. Don I also will post some pics of the 120 bus coupe I just got in from Wisconsin.

Are you referring to the strap that goes from the front fender to the frame? Its about 18 inches long. We have a couple extra if thats the part you are talking about. You can call me after 4 CST or text anytime. Don 256-572-9485. We have quite a bit of 37 115 and 120 stuff.

Don's Banjo Blunder

Don's Banjo Blunder

Recently on eBay a nice looking 1937 Banjo wheel was up for auction. As it was in better shape than the two we have for these coupe projects I succumbed to the lure of the "Buy It Now" and purchased the wheel. After waiting patiently for our package to arrive that day finally came and when I opened the box I will go for the toned down version that I can repeat here is !!!!WOW!!!!. This is a bigger wheel. So after my ID 10T error I decided to do a little report as a counter measure so I will not make the same mistake twice. And I also thought I could place it here for others to not follow my suit and end up with a wheel they end up making a nice clock out of for the garage wall. In my defense when you look at a picture of either individually they do look similar and if the nomenclature does not tell otherwise you too can walk down the "now I have a part I can not use" path.

p.s.
I am going to make a clock from it but in good judgment I will not alter the wheel, just in case we win the lotto and I can do a senior Packard. Or if someone seeing it on my wall says "Hey I could use that wheel on my car". And down it goes". If I was made whole on my financial blunder or if our kid needs to eat.

Wife got jealous, she bought a 1937 1098 Business coupe that was in the middle of a restoration.BUT!!!!! a huge percentage of the cars body parts (fenders, front and rear, running boards, hood, grille, seat, grille shell, and other parts were destroyed in a fire, the basic body, frame and rebuilt engine was at another location and was spared. Having a complete 1092 as a donor we are able to save this car. So I think we can share the blog. Don and Rachels 37's
Her car will be taken to Wichita Kansas to the Great Plains Packard Clubs mechanic to get running and maybe put together some. It does have a few options on it Banjo Wheel, Deluxe Heater, Goodess of Speed, and a Trunk Emblem that says Packard 120. Timeline on taking it to the shop is the last week of June. Then I can concentrate on the 120CD Sport Coupe.

Yes Ozstatman I am going to put it in the list very shortly. Hows that for being proactive

Here is the first picture of the project car when I first got it home. I have just about replaced all the bolt on sheet metal and have aquired lots of options for it.

Sorry'
I thought my reply on the Australia car took but I will rewrite the story. In 1984 I sold a 37 120 business coupe to a George Miunder in Melbourne. He was in the business of buying chevrolet Crew cab pickups and 350 cubic inch motors. Taking then to Australia and rebuilding the trucks into RHD and rebuilding the motors. He would also buy 2-3 vintage cars in each batch he exported. I remember selling the coupe for 2000 USD it had a banjo wheel, radio, trunk rack. and heater setup. quite a deal, I often wonder what happened to it. George said he had the parts to convert it to RHD or he would not have bought it. I think now you can have a LHD car there, if I am not mistaken.

I am finally to the point where I can start restoring this project. I have owned the car for about 18 months and during that time I have been aquiring the needed parts to make it enough of a car to call it a car. I looked at my garage and low and behold it is filled to the brim. I am there. A little history on myself. I have been into Packards for over 33 years. I bought my first in 1976 a 55 Clipper Custom. Drove a 53 Air Force Jr. Ambulance as a daily driver for many years. I have owned the below list of 37's

3- 1098 Business Coupes (My first in 1985 went to Australia)
2- 1094 Touring Coupes
6- 1092 Touring Sedans (hmmm in getting parts I have a complete one now, over collected again)
1- 1082 Touring Sedan

And finally 1- 1095 Sport Coupe My first project I will complete. All the ones previously had I would gather all the pieces and then need to eat or send a kid to school , so there were sold.

Here are the parts I needed to find to make mine complete

1. Complete dash
2. Good Front Fenders (I could have folded the ones that came with it and mail them)
3. Right side rear fender ( I now have three I kinda over collected)
4. All hood chrome( now have 2.5 sets)
5. All three rumble seat steps (still need the Bumper one)
6. Both Taillights
7. Deluxe Heater
8. Seat (Have to settle for one from a 1092)
9. Intake and exhaust manifold
10.outside door handles
11. Trunk Emblem (Car candy did not really have to have this part)
12. Luggage Rack Assy.
13. Both trunk Handles
14. Hood orn (Bail Cap for now)
15. All bumper guards and Bolts
16. 1 Wheel (4 on the car are early 37 without chain holes, it had to match the others Right?
17. Clock ( Okay I do have 4 clock deletes but I have always been a collector)
18. Headlights (Ones without holes on the bottom)
19. Headlight glass (1)
20. Horns
21. Windshield molding
22. Headlight reflectors
23. Banjo Steering wheel( another car candy)

So I hope that if I post here I will keep motivated to finish this one. My next post will have some starting pictures. Don
