I have the multi-tip plugs in my 1954 Patrician that have been in it for many decades and will probably put last me! Unfortunately they where from JC Whitney and are no longer available.

Thank you. I’ve removed these before and didn’t recall having to use anything special but then I saw a photo of the wrench. My shop is very rural with only rudimentary power so I am really working with stone knives and bearskins (as Mr Spock once said) where grinding down something isn't possible. Also, I am typically at my shop for such a short time each visit and again because it's so rural that I need to have whatever special tools I might need waiting for me when I get there! However, I don't recall needing a tool to take these out in the past so I'm sure I can get it out again.

The power door locks were available only with power windows and I have a set of both power windows and locks with a reproduction harness to install in my 1956 Clipper. Since the car did not originally have them, it’s no easy task as the doors and jambs must be modified to provide the passageways for the wires.

Howard, thank you again. I could probably figure out myself how to get it apart once I’m at my shop but I would prefer to tackle it pre-armed with some details. I’m typically there for only a short time and don’t like to waste too much of it unnecessarily when there is so much to do so having an exploded view or some other specific information would help.

That's it but how do I disassemble it to get the coil?

Thank you. I already have the solenoid assembly loose and in-hand and want to take it apart to remove the coil without destroying it in the process.

I can't find it at the moment but one of the shop manuals or service counselors says to use the coil to heat up the rear door lock buttons for removal. Yes, I have other ways of heating them but I want to try it the way Packard suggests first.

Howard, thank you but I don’t want to repair it. I want simply disassemble it to extract the coil.

Believe it or not, this question is related to this car and I’ll explain later. In the meantime, does anyone know of instructions or diagrams for disassembling a hydraulic power window cylinder? I’ve searched and found only general diagrams of the hydraulic system but surely there is something more detailed.

Probably eBay is your best bet although one of the clubs may have reproduced it. I reproduced the 1940 manual (and still have some available) but not 1941. If yours were a 110 or 120, you could download the manual for free and have it printed but I'm not sure about the 160 and 180 manuals.

Re: 1941 Packard 160 gas tank needed

Then I had the tank done on my 1965 Cadillac, it cost over $600 (maybe even considerably more) and they said that there were holes all over which had to be brazed. No actual missing metal, though, so not sure how they would handle that as it's a bit much to braze.

Yes, they did cut out a large hole on the top which was done along seams to make not show too much when welded back after sandblasting the inside and repairing the leaks. You can just barely see it inside the red lines.

No new tanks were available then (nor are they now) so getting it fixed was just about the only option but I would have preferred replacing it with a new one. Since the tanks are available new for your car, it seems a no-brainer to go that route!
