I also agree with the above. People who collect those Packards do so because they have more of an appreciation for the styling and history of the brand. They think about their cars a bit differently than the those who are ONLY worried about matching numbers and market values.

I have a brother and best friend who are into GTOs. Talk about a numbers game. In the muscle car world matching numbers, production runs, OEM/NOS parts are everything! The market and the media (big number auctions) feed that frenzy. Plus it helps spot the fakes/clones that some people try to sell as big $$$ originals.

Packard guys want authenticity and want attention to detail, but build a great car and it will be appreciated just the same.

I think that is awesome! I love it when people can creatively mix parts and make something unique, but well proportioned.

I'm sending this on to my brother and buddy, both GTO men. They will get a kick out of this.

Thanks for the sources. I'm also going to send my brother-in-law to the Brillman site to look stuff for his antique tractors!

Oh yeah, it has a Delco-Remy distributor.

Turn signal repair

The turn signal switch/control on my '51 is completely worn out. The lever is slopped-out, and won't click into any position, nor do I have any response with the lights.

Does anyone make a replacement for the internal components/switch? Is this a Delco part that is found on other makes? Buy-pass it with a universal kit?

Don't know how to attack this one. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Just did a search and ran across this old thread.

Has anyone used an electric ignition on a '51-'54 system?

I've used aerosol engine degreaser before to clean my block, which works OK by itself. But I've found scrubbing the solvent into the grease with a long-handled, stiff bristle toilet brush to really speed things along.
