You have to rock up and down to get the air out. With the suspension on the ground or a ramp, you utilize the weight of the car to move the shock.

Here's how I did my '48. Open hood (one side at a time). Get a tiny plastic funnel. Remove the access plug on top of the shock. Insert funnel. Pour oil into the funnel. As you are leaning across the fender looking at the shock, use your weight to bounce the car up and down. You will see bubbles in the funnel as the shock takes the oil. Continue until full.

Make sure you prop the hood securely so it doesn't come crashing down on you while bouncing.

That's good to know. I was thinking for a minute that GM had something on us by making a much wider car. You know, to produce a wider design costs much more than it does to lengthen.

BTW, I'm still impressed and in awe of your work!

Interesting photo of the three cars at the show. Were the GM automobiles that much wider than the Packards, or is that just the distortion of the wide angle lens?

I'm glad to see that both Kevin and Howard are getting all their ducts in a row!

Har har. Looks like you have a tapeworm infestation.

Thanks, all. I got it to stop leaking temporarily with a new O-ring and a tiny bit of teflon tape on the threads. I can't tighten it very much as it starts to squeeze out the O-ring, but I got it fairly snug. The threads are still sufficient- the cross-threading simply doesn't allow the plug to sit squarely on the carb, and the fiber gasket will not seal.

Wesley, I'll look to see if I can find a number- I think the only permanent fix will be to replace the top. Thanks!

I tried an O-ring, and it worked for a while. Must not have been gasoline rated. That would be the cheapest solution, as the plug still tightens nicely.

Yes, the MSC kits are pricey. I'm not exactly sure if that's the correct size- I used a thread gauge and it definitely shows 20, but the size may not be 5/8" as it fits loosely in the 5/8" hole on my plastic gauge.

It may be 9/16"-20 or 19/32"-20.
