1939 Oil Filter Canister For Sale
Home away from home
Home away from home

Packard Don
This canister was in my 1939 Six when I bought it in the ‘60s and has been off the car and in the garage since them. Came across it yesterday and thought I would try to give it a good home. I’m leaving my shop for home in a couple days so if interested, be sure to let me know with more details or buy it here on my site!

Did you buy it? He finally replied through Messenger that he thinks a sale is pending.

If you're still in design mode, then put in four steel supports into the walls and mount rails to them to make it into a multi-axis gantry. That way it will be safe. The main gantry portion can probably be purchased so would need no engineering although in your case you'll probably need two devices on the rails, one for each end.

The photo is of a free-standing commercial one but something like this can easily be mounted with the posts inside the wall is easy as not with only the rails showing.

Don, can you post a picture?

Sorry, I haven't owned the car for over 40 years and back then before digital cameras and phones I took very few photos. I seem to recall, though, that the sales brochure or owner's manual shows it.

UPDATE: I don't see it there so possibly it was in a Service Counselor.

My 1953 Clipper Deluxe had the label by the ignition switch which no one had ever tried to remove. It must have been durable as it was still in good condition in all the years I owned it!

Are you going to be able to remove the spot welds and neatly keep the blower flange in a decent enough condition for the factory look upon reinstallation?

Thank you, Howard! I was very surprised the last time I was here to discover that there is a vintage car restoration shop here in this tiny rural town and this is something I'll have them do. So yes, it will look like a factory installation. They are already working on the front clip for my 1965 Imperial LeBaron as it needs a replacement fender re-spot welded and leaded per original and they even came out and picked it up.

Looking at photo on this site of someone restoring the firewall on a factory A/C car, it shows a very similar irregular hole as mine.

Looking at all the A/C parts in the trunk, I took out the firewall piece to see if it made sense as I want to get it installed one of these days. It looks fine but I was surprised to see how chopped-out the irregularly shaped hole looks! This was from a factory system, yet the hope looks to have been cut with an ax, Surely they all could be this bad, could they?

Cleaning up and tossing out the rock-hard pieces of carpet today, I think I found the remnants of the cover for the hole. When it was last removed, it likely slid under the carpet and got lost so someone used a rag to stuff into the hole.
