Spot on JWL. The original post by PackRat mentioned a little more power and excitement. I screw around with my old Packard and enjoy it every time. I did not take his inquiry as a serious Bonneville Salt Flats mechanical technical mega cost concours conversion. I took it as "what can I have fun with?" Others note the topic has been discussed many times. Searching the forum for old posts has a lot of info. No worries.
Interestingly, I had followed this 1953 Mayfair with a supercharged V8 stuffed into it: https://www.mecum.com/lots/CH1019-389031/1953-packard-mayfair/ I have also been intrigued by the history of the McCulloch VS57 supercharger in the 50s: http://vs57.y-block.info/history.htm Attach file: 1954supercharger1.jpg (57.30 KB) 1954supercharger2.jpg (117.55 KB) 53MAYFAIRV8SUPERCHARGERa.JPG (156.67 KB) 53packardmayfairsuperchargerB.JPG (174.07 KB) packardVS57.JPG (78.68 KB)

For what its worth, my 1954 359 L8 has a 4 speed GM 700R4 transmission which makes the car a rocket. In addition, it has a Porter muffler, Petronix electronic ignition and coil, 1954 air conditioner spec CGJ Brice Thomas aluminum radiator, 180 degree thermostat, flex fan with adapter, 6 volt Optima battery, zero "0" gauge tractor cables, auxiliary electric fuel pump, Wilwood disc brakes, Carter WCFB 2112S 4 barrel carb, Spectre single air intake plenum with K&N filter, 4 7/32 to 5 1/8 air cleaner adapter and a surviving aluminum head. I also disconnected the passenger side heater tube and put a K&N filter on the heater motor to let cooler air into the engine bay and a Summit racing fuel pump heat shield wrap. A rebuild was done around 2003 though. Simple stuff but it works for me.
Interesting stuff for V8s below, hope I'm allowed to share it: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/430-and-352-packard-speed-equipment.689719/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1956-packard-v8-by-ansen-automotive-engineering.981064/ Attach file: 042722pack359a.jpg (184.40 KB) 042722pack359b.jpg (234.88 KB) 042722pack359c.jpg (226.35 KB)

All is well with the Autolite 308s. Everything runs perfect. I was just fishing to see if anyone thought modern technology might help things run better. Eg. burning off deposits better, conducting energy better and increase firing efficiency. No worries though.

Thank you Owen and Howard for your quick replies. I have always valued both of your opinions.
I was taking a shot and intrigued by a hotter plug burning off deposits better and the iridium plugs feature of a fine wire electrode designed to conduct electrical energy better and increase firing efficiency. With iridium being 6x harder and 8x stronger than platinum with a 700 degree higher melting point I surmise iridium lasts pretty long. We all agree to stick with a 3/8" reach. God Bless BigKev and thank you !

My 1954 359 L8 currently utilizes Autolite copper resistor 308 spark plugs. The gap is 0.025. Thread size is 14mm. Reach is 3/8". Heat range is 12 (cold). Seat type is gasket and tip is short projection. All works very well. Does anyone know if there is an iridium or platinum cross reference? What are the pros and cons of a modern hotter plug in a 1954 359 aluminum head should there be a cross reference? Holley MSD has a 14mm, 0.4375 reach, heat range 6 (hot) iridium plug. Will a longer reach be detrimental? Will things go boom and melt? Thoughts are welcome.

My best guesstimation is a tally of $328,050.00. These are the bid winners only. It appears everything was sold with a handful of buyers that really stand out. (see attachment) The forum does not accept .xlsx extension so do not worry about the pop up.

In putting things in perspective regarding scale for those not from the North East. The Wetmore Street facility appears quite large with an old factory in the background in NY Mills. Broad Street, Genesee Street (hi rise) and Dwyer Avenue & Turner Street in Utica have similar old factory buildings. (see attachments)
