This is the third parts car for this project. The original was rusted beyond saving. The dash was rusted through, the sky could be seen from the inside and even the bumpers were rusted out. When I opened one of the rear doors it fell to the ground with a small section of roof still attached. I've got a lot of work ahead of me and I'm not getting any younger. Thanks for your interest.

I'll try to post pictures as progress is made. It only took me 20+ years on my last Packard project But I will try to do better this time. I spent this weekend on two of my other Packards and some time just sorting parts for the lwb project. The pictures may not be in order of the progress because it's one step forward and two or three or more steps back. It is painted the original colors. The paint chip chart I have for 46-47 Lists 2 color combinations for taxicabs. Raja maroon/Arizona beige; and burnt orange/federal yellow. I think that you could get any color combination that you requested for them to make the sale.

Thanks Steve and everyone else for your interest. I am currently on my third lwb parts car. The first one was too nice, the second one too bad, and the third one is in progress (as slow as it may seem). I'll take pictures as I make progress. My last Packard project took 20+ years to finish, so I better get in gear on this asap.

Thanks for the kind words and for posting the pictures. It's nice to see that some others enjoy seeing the taxi.

Thanks Steve. I have a 141 inch wb parts car and a 120 inch wb 49 taxi from the Chicago area for parts. I have been reluctant to use the 49 for parts, but may find it necessary. I believe the 49 is lower production than the 48 as far as taxi cabs go. My age and my health are not in my favor, but I am determined to at least get the 48 assembled and road worthy then maybe work on THE 49.
Wish me luck, Packardtaximan

Thanks for the input. I have found out that there is little information on the lwb taxicabs. Basically the lwb taxi is a 7 passenger sedan with a 6 cylinder engine with a special taxi interior and accessories such as roof light , luggage rack, power rear glass, pimp lights on roof, steel frame around all door glass. Any information would be helpful with this project.
Thanks for your interest. Packardtaximan

This was my last taxi project 20+ years ago. It's time to start a new project - the NYC 1948 lwb taxi. All suggestions and encouragement considered. See previous post.

NYC 1948 lwb taxi will be next on my list. I think it will buff out. Any suggestions or encouragement welcome. Yes it is that rusty.
