Re: Paint Options (1953 Packard Clipper)

Good afternoon...I would take the old girl to the local paint shop that advertises $300 and up and ask their advice about you should self prepare the car to be painted. Follow their advice. Remove the chrome and bumpers carefully so you can put them back on later. Have her painted and drive her. For many of us the joy is in the driving and not the restoration. Welcome to the forum!

Good Morning...A good traditional locksmith should not have any trouble repairing the ignition switch. Most of those things were designed so that a locksmith could take them apart and repair them when the little springs gave out or the palls became warn short or they were just too dirty to allow the pieces to slide back and forth! Miss Prudence's ignition key says ACE Hardware on it, but in works just fine. The keyway for our 1949 deluxe is still used today. How about that? Ernie in Arizona

Good Morning...The Ace Hardware in our neighborhood is just down the block from Andara which is a retirement home for folks who can still do everything to folks who need lots of help. I came out of the Ace the other day and a lady of most likely 80+ was looking into Miss Prudence's back seat sort of wistfully, it seemed to me. She looked at me and said 'Lovely Car' and then moved on down the parking lot. I did not say anything! I believe that 'Miss Prudence was pleased with the complement! Ernie in Arizona

Good Afternoon...I'll bet Kantor and Max will have them. Max had one for our 49 Deluxe not too long ago...It looked like it was new. Plugged right in and works great. Ernie in Arizona

I'm just not understanding why the 1951-1954 Packard Automobiles are shown such disrespect? Can someone enlighten me please. The only comment Dolores made when we were shopping for a Packard...I wanted a 1929 or so and she a 1949-50. She said 'The 51-54 cars look too much like Chevys'. As you might expect, our 1949 'Miss Prudence' is just what Dolores wanted! She is a good girl! Go figure! Ernie in Arizona

Good Morning...Since quite a bit has been updated/moved/changed, I would check to see if the rotor goes around when you crank the engine. I spent a rough morning once before I realized that the slot on the bottom of the distributor shaft was not engaged at the bottom. Uttered many bad words! Ernie in Arizona
