Re: Float in carb sticking closed or up

Good Morning...Some of us keep Marvel Mystery Oil in our gas at the level on the bottle. I drive our 1949 Deluxe quite a bit and also a 1931 Model A Ford and I don't have any float trouble with either of them. However, friends that have cars that only are started/driven every few months do seem to have such trouble now and again. It appears to me that starting/running them on a regular basis is the key...if only around the block for five or six miles every other week. Ernie in Arizona

Wow...Your work is always impressive. If you take all of your posts here and at Packard Club...You have a book that a great many car gals and guys would love to read. Perhaps publishing a book should be your next project after completing your Packard...Ernie in Arizona

Good afternoon...Since the car has been sleeping in the barn for a while, start with a compression check to see what is happening with the rings and valves. 7 years ago, we purchased a 1949 Deluxe 'Miss Prudence'. Before we did any driving, we dropped the oil pan and cleaned it out. We cleaned out the oil pump which was full of sludge and finally set the valve lash to factory specs. We purchased several oil filter cartridges and changed the oil at 100 miles three times...then the old girl began to run pretty well. We also drained the transmission and filled it with 140 weight oil as it was getting caught between first and second gear and locking in second gear. Only God knows what was in that transmission...many people run 15/40 oil in the crank case of these old girls...check, clean and set your points properly and clean all of the electrical connections and make sure they are nice and snug. Flush the engine and radiator and then start to use the old girl around town at 40 miles an hour or so and also give the old girl a good lube job while changing the oil for the first time...they tend to wake up slowly...so follow the above and let her limber up. One more thing for safety..have the shop that changes the oil and lubes her, check the wheel bearings check the brake system to make sure it functions and does not pull hard to one side...just treat her like along lost girl friend and she will make you smile. Good Morning all...She might not be the prettiest girl at the dance, but someone loves her! She is certainly not rusting away under a tree, unloved and forgotten! Ernie in Arizona

Good afternoon...I would not be surprised if a Packard Person will take the running gear and engine and use them on another Packard project of some sort...it should not go to waste! You might also offer it on 'Packard Club.org. Ernie in Arizona

Good Evening...Do you all ever wonder if our Packards would make a few impolite comments regarding their treatment over the years. I know 'Miss Prudence' would in a couple of instances! Ernie in Arizona

Good Morning...Someone posted a torque chart a while back. It basically showed the size of the bolt and gave the torque for that size bolt. Hopefully, if the right person sees this thread...they can post it again. It also seems to me that there is such a chart in the old Motors Manuals...Ernie in Arizona
