Henry,
One of our members( now deceased ) fitted a vacuum valve from a Mack truck to operate the grill on his 16th series seven passenger. It opens fully when the engine is running and closes when the engine is shut down.
He left the syphon system in place, I believe that Peter Packard could know how it was done.
Regards Pepe.

Hello Henry,
The 115c has a metal near right angle elbow with
a straight hose either end, the later model pump has a larger (1 3/4") inlet so you will need to sleeve the connection for the hose to metal pipe.

Hello Henry,
The number cast into my pump is 335257, there is a new after market pump on e bay today.I agree with Fred Kanter that the radiator core needs to be clean, however ever little helps when you use your car in 40 degree celcius( 100 F) days of summer. It is also important to make sure the water distribution tube is clean and in good condition.

Mal don't clean the underside before you go to Victor Harbour as the oil will help keep out the water. (lol)

I am in the process of converting my 115c to a pressurized recovery system, the pump you have is a 1939 six pump and can be bolted to the block using the three bolts the 1937 use. The fourth ( top left or drivers side in the USA) can either use a bolt with a thin hexagon with the nut facing forward, the second option is to drill and tap the block. If the pressure should be kept to either 4lbs or 7lbs then three bolt are sufficient.
I have recently made stainless steel backing plates to suit the water pumps.
Good luck with your 138cd a rare and lovely Packard.

Had a similar problem with my 115 c, found the problem was in the delco distributor, the moving plate the points are mounted on has three flanges that hold three balls, one of the flanges had broken of and this allowed the plate to tilt and alter the points gap under acceleration. The solution was to replace the plate and re gap the points. Hope this is of assistance.

Hello John,
The other common solution to use is distillate, regardless of what you choose remove the valve covers and use a spray to get some of the rust penetrate into the guides. Then have some one watch the valve stems as you rock the rear wheel back and forth to see if there is any movement.
