Does anyone know if original upholstery material is available?

I don't think mine has the dot, possibly just as well as I hear the older version is more reliable?

HH56 I agree about the desirability of the 54s. I like that they are the last model with the straight eight, a Packard trademark for many years. And I think they have the nicest style of the postwar cars. The Patrician is the cream of the sedan models. A Caribbean or prewar Packard would be nice, but you could add a couple of zeros to the price. All in all the 54 Patrician or possibly a Sport Coupe make an awfully nice driver.

On the Ultramatic question - is there a simple way to tell the GS version? Is it marked on the shift quadrant? Have not brought the car home yet but will register it when I do.
Later - looked it up and apparently the GS quadrant has a dot between N and D. I don't think my car has it. Maybe just as well as I hear the older version is more reliable?

Thank you for your kind wishes. It happens there is an 86 Cadillac with wire wheels for sale cheap about 50 miles from here so the open wheel wells may be sporting wires. The top expert assures me they will fit. Something that may be worth keeping in mind, if you have a senior Packard and like wire wheels.

It would be interesting to know the life of a 356 converted to full flow. Have any topped 100,000 miles? Can any of the difference in engine life between 356 and 911 be accounted for by better oil, such as synthetics, and better design and materials?
The information contradicts other sources that claim little or no difference in engine life and wear between full flow and bypass filtration but this was on Studebaker V8s. They were made with bypass filters from 1951 to 1961 and full flow from 1962 to 1965. A Studebaker expert who has rebuilt or examined hundreds of engines, says there is no difference in engine life or wear.

Did a little checking and it seems I can have a set of Coker Packard wires and wide whites delivered to Canada for around $6000 not including import duty.
They are asking $500 for the whole Cadillac.

I am a bit surprised Porsche used a bypass type filter after everyone else changed to full flow! This confirms my theory that bypass is BETTER than full flow, and car companies only changed to full flow because of hydraulic valve lifters. On engines with solid lifters they continued to use the bypass type.
The rubber seal is supposed to be a tight fit.
