Yes O-D I have some old National seal books that list the Packard numbers, like the inner is a170260 if I remembered it right go to a 470065 which is like $13.00. I ordered a set for my 33 and for my 35 for just a little over $110.00. the fronts are the problem and have them on order from Max. As the front seal has the seal surface against the brake drum and appears to be just felt I was thinking about finding a seal that would fit the 3 inch bore size of the brake drum a have it seal on the piece the fits between the inner bearing and the spindle. I might try that on my 35 when I get to it. Thanks again

Thanks all for the help, one reason this was is being done is the fact that the car has sat for thirty five year and from the look of the grease in the traps (which had to be doug out with a metal tool) I think the last time the rear was serviced was during world war II. New seals and new grease, almost good as new.

Time has come to repack the wheel bearing on my 1003, The fronts are not a problem, the rears are a different deal with the double bearing. I would guess that one must check each side with a dial indicator. As I remember the later cars with single bearings are 7 to 10 thousands side to side, Does anyone know what the specks are for the double bearings? Thanks Dell

Mal; You need to put a 4 by 4 on top of the rafters or a block between them as not to damage the rafter ( cross ties is what they are) good luck. Jon

Hi Rick; The fastest way to check the solenoid is to take a jumper wire and ground the kick down switch. With the key on ground one side and then other of the switch which is down on the gas pedal linkage. If you can hear the solenoid click then it is ok. (first check the fuse) It should click on both sides-if not let me know. Dell

Bill; Hope you can get the yoke on the same spot, if you didn't mark the shaft just try to tighten with the same force it took to remove nut.

Overdrive or high speed gears

I seem to remember adds for high speed gears in the past? However I can not seam to find any now, online or in Hemmings. Are they still being produced? Other option would be overdrive unit, Does anyone have any info on venders or installing in a 33 Supper Eight? Thanks for the help. Dell PS I talked with a friend in our region who has a 36 1400 that has an overdrive that he believes was supplied by Packard dealers, attaches to the 3rd member.
