Re: Overdrive on 1925 Packard

Good afternoon all...We have had a Mitchell Overdrive in our 1931 Model A Ford for 14 years and it is totally quiet. If your experience is prior to 2005 or so, perhaps the newer ones are quieter than the ones you had. Gear Venders is also a great unit...Ernie in Arizona

Good Morning...For me the 1947 Body could have been kept until 1951. The interiors could have been made more lush with the money saved. I do also think that removing the Packard vertical grill was a mistake. It said Packard like nothing else did. Ernie in Arizona

Thank you Howard...I guess I went through that section too damn fast. I guess Miss Prudence is safe! She may be less safe coming home from the dentist in a couple of hours! Ernie in Arizona

Lug Bolt Torque for a 2362

Good afternoon all...I should know, but do not know, what the correct torque is for the lug bolts on a 2362. I would think that they should be some place between 65 and 85 pounds feet, but for some reason I can't find it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ernie in Arizona

Good afternoon...perhaps you might chase the threads before you re-hang the unit...nice clean threads and a bit of oil will make them start and go in a bit easier, at least they do for me...Ernie in Arizona

Good Evening all...We have replaced the directional switch in our 1949 23rd series and it looks very similar if not the same as yours and has the same 1943 stamp on it. Ernie in Arizona...

Good Morning all...Owen/Dave do you think that the current head gasket could be a little bit less thick than the old one? Ernie in Arizona

Re: Distributor

Good Morning...That little fellow is for greasing the bearings. Depending on how long it has been since it was filled, it might be full of old hard grease and will need to be removed and cleaned out. Then put it back with fresh grease in it and just give it a bit of a turn to put fresh grease on the distributor bearings a couple of times a year. Sort of a nice old fashioned bit of maintenance...Have a great Packard day. Ernie in Arizona

Re: Argh still overheating 49

Ernie Vitucci
Good Evening all...Our 49 ran hot when we purchased her and we cleaned out the cooling system, rebuilt the water pump, added a new radiator and while we made progress the final part of the puzzle was a slow acting heat valve and a vacuum advance that did not work. We also changed to a rebuilt Delco Distributor from an Autolight that was pretty well warn out...perhaps some additional things to check. Ernie in Arizona
