33-1003 current limit relay HELP
Home away from home
Home away from home

Dell
my 33 project was some what restored in 1980, engine rebuilt, paint and upholstery and then parked. the switches and lighters in the rear compartment were never hooked up-i assume it was because of a short to ground that i found in the circuit for the lighters. turned out the front lighter was missing one insulated washer-grounded the hot wire. the result is the current limit relay got fried. on top of the two fuses there is a .050 steel wire that rapes around an insulator in parallel with fuse and connects the main leads to the amp meter. my question is this some kind of special wire, i assumed it was steel as it passed the magnet test.
the switches are wired so the DS controls the corner lights and the PS controls the dome light when the light switch is in the first notch.
thanks for any advice and help any one might have, i have not been able to find many manuals for this car, i have more for my 28

after i removed the cowl vent on my 33 project to replace the seal i found it necessary to replace the drain hoses. i was unable to find 7/16 id hose at the normal supply house. i found that G E dish washer fill hose is the perfect size.

dallas; this has been covered before on the sight. you can get a seal from max merrett. you must mark the pinion shaft and nut with a center punch so that you can tighten the nut to the same spot to maintain the preload on the bearings. the seal is healed in an adapter, if you can remove the adapter and seal with out damage and then remove the seal from from the adapter it can be reused-its hard to do. i have the seal number at home and will be back there on the 24th. pm me if you need it. dell

Thanks Ken; I know that I can buy one from Kanter, Max, Sandy or several of the of the other big suppliers if they have one. I thought one of the group might have an extra or an extra for a car they have sold. Dell

Thanks Tim; this engine has not been run for years. I think at least 30. I got it to turn over with the crank for my 28 and want to check the compression before I take the head off. I have the receipt for the rebuild from 1978, insert bearing and 30 over pistons by an old timer that had done several early Packards. I don't want to take it apart any further then I have to. I will post what I find under the head. Dell

Big head problem!!!

I was getting ready to repaint the engine in my new 33 super eight project, when i cleaned the paint and rust off the head I found the head had been repaired. It didn't look good so I magnafluxed the head and found a road map of cracks. does anyone on the web sight have any suggestions on a supply of super eight heads. I think there is just to much damage to repair this one. I know that an aluminum head has been reproduced, $2,000 is a lot to pay unless there are no other options. Thanks Dell Having problem loading picture

P. I. judging book states, valve covers black till 33-34 on engine color. acorns nuts chrome on head-rest should be cad plated unless its a 12, if 12 all chrome except pan bolts. the crankcase should not be painted, just natural aluminum finishes. don't have my book in front of me at this time as i am on vacation. can look up more info when i get home if you wish. dell
