Re: 1946 Clipper Resto Mod at BJ Auctions

Although I love 'original' when it comes to old vehicles, I can and do appreciate good workmanship and some of the design engineering ideas of 'tasteful' resto-mods. This one certainly seems to qualify in that regard and I believe it showed as selling at $22K - an absolute steal when the time and mechanical are considered. I bet that guy didn't get back two bits on the dollar of what he'd spent on it. Chris.

Hey John, I put these on my car, Packard branded, and they look good. Nice quality chrome, good visibility, and quite easy to find online. I think I paid a couple hundred bucks for these, including brackets and period-authentic switch. Chris.

Hi Paul, I guess I answered my own question as when I went looking around for what I might have done, I clicked on 'View Mode' and clicked that until I got things back to normal. I can see everyone's avatar again. I hate it when I do something like that and end up with a foreign-looking screen. Drives me nuts! Anyway, thanks for the response. Chris.

Rlark, thanks for responding. I suddenly can't see anyone's avatars, nor mine. Any idea what I might have done?? I had a Microsoft auto-update last night and it seems it was after that. Chris.

You bet, John - Raleigh made a very good bike. I got into racing bikes a bit, and I remember the Raleigh's were considered a bit heavy with a steel frame. I ended up on a French Gitane, which was aluminum and quite light, compared. Chris.

Is it just my computer or did our avatars just disappear? I thought maybe I inadvertently hit a setting button I shouldn't have, or has there been a change in the way posts display?? Chris.

LOL... very cool. Properly maintained and adjusted, I always thought the Sturmey-Archer hub was a GREAT design. Chris.

John, I'd be interested to know more about those 'Packard OEM fog lights'. I didn't realize Packard actually made a version of them. I thought it was all just aftermarket outfits like Trippe and Unity, etc.??? Any pictures?? Chris.
