That spacer on the 7th series was a big improvement over the 6th series. Made it easier to get the wiring thru the firewall.

Does anyone know what the engine oil capacity of a 1929 large 8 engine is?

I have a very nice 1930-31 Packard Adonnis deluxe 8 radiator mascot available. I bought it many years ago from the son of a gentleman who worked for Packard and had it as a decoration on his desk. Possibly never mounted on a car. If interested, contact me at hiway9999@hotmail.com for more details and photos.

I did see that thread earlier. My leakage occurs with the car just sitting (car has not been on the road yet), so the slinger and drain holes are passive at that point.

I misspoke, it is the splined flange that goes over the pinion shaft that bears against the seal. It looks good.

Pinion shaft looks good. Is the felt seal supposed to contain the differential oil? Anyone know?

You may need a hub puller. You screw it on to the threaded hub and tighten a screw in the puller which forces the wheel off of the brake shoes, which are usually the offending party.

1929 640 Differential leak

Filled my differential with oil and it leaks out the front (pinion side)like a sieve. When I put it together, I didn't see any seal other than the felt pinion seal. Is this supposed to keep it from leaking? Any suggestions? Is there a replacement for the seal, if that is the problem?
