Hey John,
Re the charging amps, I would think your battery should get down to the 2-3 amp level when charged. I am charging mine as we speak and I just checked the amps digital readout and it's saying 1.1, so I'm thinking I'm pretty close to fully charged. This charger pops off when full charge is reached and it is still showing 'charging' and I'll check it again in a couple of hours. Re the condition of your battery, I would put a hydrometer on it and see how she 'floats'. That, and a proper load test, are the best ways to ascertain battery health and condition. Also, the plates in batteries left unused and uncharged for an extended period, will sulfate, (think of shiny lead vs. dull, oxidized lead) and they become less efficient and will not take a charge as readily either. That's why it's a good idea to throw any lead acid battery on a charger every once in a while, when it's sitting idle during the winter months. Chris.

I have had success freeing stuck valves using a product called 'Free-All' made in the US by the company Federal Process. I had a situation with an antique Chris-Craft wooden boat with a flathead six where all the 'usual remedies' had been tried and failed. It took a couple of good soakings but the valve let go and the ecstatic owner was never without a can of Free-All in his tool kit afterwards! I don't know what the active ingredient is in the product, that makes it so effective, but I have had it free threads and 'stuck things' many times over the years, when nothing else I tried would work. I know everyone has their own 'pet product' when it comes to rust breakers and thread lubricantss, etc., but Federal Process' product line is far and away the best I've come across. And, for the record, I am retired and have absolutely zero stake in promoting their products - just passing along 'what worked for me'. Chris

I'm interested in travelling to the 2020 Packard meet. Does one need to be a Packard Club member to attend?? What is the approximate cost of admission? Is it one fee for the week or a daily entry fee? Excuse my lack of insight here - never been to ANY 'meet' before, never mind a Packard event. I see Rohnert Park is about 50 miles north from San Francisco; is that the closest hub to fly into? Would really like to attend. Chris.

Greenfield - I just got it explained to me, that your '31 engine does not have a conventional nut on the crank-end, Please disregards my previous post and excuse my limited knowledge; PRESUMPTIONS will get you every time! Chris.

Also, just as a cautionary remark, and at the risk of sounding stupid, you HAVE confirmed your your battery is hooked up 'positive ground', right? I say this as when I purchased my car, the previous owner's LICENSED MECHANIC had installed a new battery and had wired it negative earth. Chris
